Saw Deep Purple on their Machine Head tour at the Coliseum in the early 70's. One of the best concerts I ever saw. Can't believe some of the crap bands and acts that are in the hall and bands like Deep Purple and Bad Company don't even get nominated. RIP Jon....You were the best.
This was the exact stage setup they used in Memphis...

I was (and guess I still am) a HUGE Deep Purple fan. RIP to a founding father of classic rock.
The sound he made with those keys was legendary.
Sorry to hear this, he was a great one. I saw that concert also. Deep Purple in rock, listened to it on vinyl just the other night.
I saw Deep Purple at the Overton Park Shell, summer of 1971, maybe 1972. Richie Blackmore and Jon Lord had incredible synchronization. If I remember right a local group called Omaha was the opening act. Then Seals and Croft played. Although they were very popular at that time they literally put the crowd to sleep. Wrong choice for such a high energy show. Finally just after sunset Deep Purple came on and put on an incredible show. Lord's B3 Hammond and Leslie speakers produced amazing sound. Bands at that time still played through huge stacks of speakers on stage. It must have been over 125 db on stage. We sat about row 15 just to the right of center. I had tinnitus for several hours after the show ended. I think it was the same summer that Black Sabbath also performed at the Shell but only after a long rain delay. Deep Purple was the benchmark for what later became known as heavy metal.
Those were the days.

Yep. Sadly, I can't remember them.
