LITTLE CAESARS PIZZA AGREES TO TWO-YEAR
EXTENSION OF BOWL SPONSORSHIP

2012 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl Date Set; Again Nationally Televised on ESPN

DETROIT— Little Caesars Pizza Bowl officials today announced a new two-year agreement with Little
Caesars Pizza to extend the company’s title sponsorship of the bowl through the 2013 bowl game.
Little Caesars Pizza, the largest international carry-out pizza chain, has been the bowl’s title sponsor
since 2009.

The 16th annual post-season college football bowl game will feature the Mid-American Conference’s
first bowl selection against a bowl-eligible Big Ten team. ESPN will nationally televise the primetime
game, which will take place on Dec. 26 at 7:30pm in Detroit at Ford Field, home to the NFL’s Detroit
Lions and Super Bowl XL.

“Having Little Caesars Pizza as our title sponsor for a fourth and fifth year is exciting to us for a number
of reasons,” said Little Caesars Pizza Bowl CEO and Executive Director Ken Hoffman. "It extends the
bowl’s relationship with a highly-reputable international brand that has a natural synergy with college
athletics and is based right here in Detroit. Little Caesars Pizza boasts a vast network of stores around
the world that can be tapped to create marketing opportunities that extend the game’s reach. In
tandem with sports icons ESPN, the Big Ten, and the Mid-American Conference, this extension offers
us the chance to grow the stature of the bowl as we look to the future."

“We’re proud to continue our sponsorship of this NCAA, Big Ten and Mid-American Conference bowl
game and help bring exciting college football action to pizza and sports fans nationwide,” said David
Scrivano, President and CEO, Little Caesars Pizza. “We are especially pleased to participate in the
Midwest’s only major college bowl game and support a bowl that is a national showcase for college
athletics.”

The 2012 game marks the eleventh consecutive season the bowl game will be in Ford Field. From
1997 to 2001 the game was held at the Pontiac Silverdome.
Unless Toledo is a 2 loss team, I want to be there this year.
I am worried that this bowl is gone after 2013.

Don't know if you went to Mobile when Toledo last went (early 2006 I believe). I highly recommend it if you can go. We had a great time there this year! Everything was good - the Mardi Gras Parade, the food, Battleship Park, Gulf Shores and friendly locals. Oh, did I mention the game was good too? 02-13-banana

I did not go, but I remember watching Toledo de-rail Utep. It's alright, but Peebles isn't the nicest venue for a game. Mobil is cool. Whatever winning the MAC means is okay, or like I said if UT is really good I'd take a non tie in. But Detroit is fun because it's mid bowl season and it's so close. A Cambell vs. Beckman matchup could be on the horizon for Detroit....

So where would you want Toledo if they are a 2 loss team?

It just may be.

If the game is replaced by something like the Liberty Bowl I wouldn't be sweating it. Little Ceasars could then sponsor the MACC.
Dear Friends,
If, the bowl is gone, the people you would have to blame (in my opinion) is the Big Ten. They have consistently not sent a representative to the game, maybe three times, and have kind of thumbed their noses at it. So, when you have that attitude about the bowl, it will not be successful.

We are not going to be a primary tie in for the Liberty Bowl.

This is going to be an SEC vs BE game.

Even getting a secondary tie in is going to be hard since they already have a relationship with CUSA...though if its an ESPN owned bowl then I am not sure.
I much prefer sending our champion here to battle a B1G team than sending them to Mobile a day before the BCS title game when there is room for no other story in college football. This time around Christmas draws more viewers and is in that dead period when non AQ teams are the bulk of bowl participants. It is our premier opportunity to showcase our best team. A 12 team B1G helps fill this slot and the next two years will be critical for the success of the game. I think it is important for students, alumni, and supporters of this conference to make every effort to support this game. Its in our best economic interest to have a viable bowl game against a top conference that we can easily afford to send our teams to.

How has the Big 10 thumbed their noses at the bowl? They have sent a rep every year the contract called for them to do so. Because the sponsors didn't want to pay enough to move higher in the list of bowl eligible teams is an issue for them, not the Big 10. When the deal was signed, everyone knew the B10 would only be able to supply a team once in a while. That they try to sell the bowl as "Big 10 vs the MAC" is just hype. There is an easy solution to ensuring that the Big 10 supplies a representative: money. That's what the bowls ahead of the LCB have done.

The late afternoon time slot for the LCPB also stinks.

This year I got home only in time to catch the game late in the 2nd half.

We will see if the NCAA increases eligibility to 7 games on top of the APR requirements in 2014.
The time slot is not ideal. But many many people are not working Dec. 26th. The benefits far outweigh the negatives for this game IMO.

I guess it could have been worse and they didn't renew this time around.

My main reason is because of the new APR requirements for bowl eligibility in 2014.

Though the first bowl I would expect to go for the MAC is the Potato Bowl.
The LCPB has sound sponsorship, a first class stadium, a unique time slot, close to two decades of viability, and a committed partner in the MAC. This bowl was able to sustain itself without Michigan MAC teams or B1G teams for years. There is no reason to think that for some reason in two years it will be gone. The #8 B1G slot is no longer really a threat not to be filled because of the 12 team conference. I can't imagine there will be many years when they get 3 teams into major bowls/semifinals. I would also be shocked if any other conference got on board with the 7 win bowl requirement. I haven't seen many 6 win teams turn down bowls so I don't see why AD's and Presidents would decide to do so at the aggregate, especially after the sanctimonious nonsense they were spewing all off season about protecting the bowl system for the benefit of the student-athlete.

You have filled up the other half of my glass!
Glad I could be of service. Now for the sake of our conference lets hope I'm correct.

Yep. I like the LCPB.

Sure, it doesn't have the touristy "warm weather" attraction, and the city probably doesn't roll out the red carpet to teams as much as the Mobile one does. But it's one of the better attended non-BCS affiliated bowl games and I do like the timing during Christmas week when a lot of people - including me - already get that week off work. And it doesn't get too lost in the "National Championship Game Around the Corner!" chatter like the early January ones do.
