Has anyone heard news or rumors that Belmont and ETSU will continue to play one another in men's basketball next season? I was hoping that we could continue to play you.

We picked up a home and home this season with Lipscum so far, but I haven't heard any news about other ASUN teams.
Doubt Murry will schedule a loss.

Fan, we have taken a big hit through graduation. I don't see us as being dominating by any means.
They should schedule a home and home with you guys, probably won't happen. Put our home game with you in the traditional OOC time and figure out a way to schedule ETSU's return trip to coincide with the Lipscomb game.
You guys will be okay, probably 3rd/4th in the OVC this year just because it seems like everyone in that conference returns the house.
I think that Chamberlain kid that's from your neck of the woods may turn out to be a badass.

I like your idea about scheduling the return when you all are in town, don't know when that is, but makes sense. We don't have a home game for the last 3-4 weeks of the conf season for some reason.

Are you thinking Craig Bradshaw maybe? I agree with you if so. I can't wait to see him play. We have Reece Chamberlain on our team currently but he is mostly a defensive fill in and occasional 3 pt shooter.
Chamberlain. He's a pretty good kid and a good ball player. I believe he's got two brothers coming up as well that can play ball.
If only schools listed to guys on messageboards when it comes to scheduling...
I am looking forward to Belmont/TSU. I think that's a game that both facilities could be absolutely rocking for.

Byrd already called Bartow and Bartow declined. A friend of mine in Nashville told me that Ezell said she doesn't want her team playing in that "airplane hanger" ever again.

The above mentioned friend also said that BU and LU will continue playing in every sport.....good rival + cheap travel = makes $en$e.

The only BU vs. A-Sun games I can find (other than LU) are:
BU Men's Soccer vs. NKU, 9/22
BU Men's Soccer vs. Jacksonville, 9/29

BTW, I noticed that BU is playing Appy State this year in both Men's and Women's Soccer. I'm not sure who I'll root for less!!!
If ETSU ever wants to really be a player in athletics, they won't consider scheduling teams like Belmont and instead try to schedule larger schools.

If ETSU would schedule Belmont, it would bring in 500-1000 more fans, MAYBE. If they would schedule a big name opponent to come to Johnson City they would have a shot at selling out.

Really, Pitt? I usually stay out of the frays involving you, but I have to ask if you really believe this. ETSU should only schedule big name schools to Johnson City?

Even big name schools don't schedule other big name schools exclusively. I agree schools like ours should attempt to land the big schools, but that doesn't mean ETSU should quit scheduling any schools like BU.

Seems like Byrd is really loading-up this year with 3-point shooters. I guess he misses his days with Wes Burtner, Steve Draybin, Brian Collins, Justin Hare, and Andy Wicke. Further, I think Byrd wants an answer to the long arms of those Georgetown guards that he occasionally runs into. His guard recruits are big: Craig Bradshaw (6'3"), Caleb Chowbay (6'2"), and Jeff Laidig (6'4") . . . all a bit bigger than recently graduated BU Guard Drew Hanlin (5'11"). In fact, every one of his returning guards are over 6' tall: Adam Barnes (6'2"), Reece Chamberlain (6'1"), Ian Clark (6'3"), Kerron Johnson (6'1"), J.J. Mann (6'6"), Holden Mobely (6'3"), and Spencer Turner (6'3").

Looking into it, I'm most impressed with that Chowbay kid. I wouldn't be at all sad if he'd transfer to ETSU. Here's some Chowbay facts:

1. Threw for 1,555 yards and 23 touchdowns his senior year as quarterback -- leading the team to a record of 13-1 and a berth in the state football semifinals.

2. Went 7-1 as a pitcher with a 1.60 ERA as MJHS went 34-4 and reached the state baseball tournament.

3. As a MBB Guard/Point Guard, he scored 1,200 points in his career and was a two-time District 9AAA Player of the Year -- helping Mt. Juliet to a record of 25-8 his senior year and the regular season 9AAA championship.

4. In the classroom, he graduated with honors earning a 3.859 GPA.

Sorry, but I can't resist a little sarcasm with regards to this...

Yeah, Belmont is a really small school. They only have 6,400 students compared to ETSU's 16,000. Since basketball quality is clearly better at large schools, I think we got things covered by playing large schools like Kennesaw State (27,000 students) and NKU (15,800 students). ETSU needs to only play large schools and not ever worry about scheduling smaller schools like Marquette (11,600 students), Villanova (9,700 students), Georgetown (6,000 students), or Duke (12,800 students).

BTW, speaking of NKU, let's all welcome them and their Bank Of Kentucky Center as the latest A-Sun school to show us up. They are going to kill us. D-II schools don't build facilities like this for terrible basketball programs:

What a nice arena. Much too classy for this league. NKU will be in the A-Sun only as long as it takes to be full fledged DI --- and they're gone. The A-Sun is nothing more than a farm league for other conferences. ETSU had to join the A-Sun when it de-emphasized athletics. To the A-Sun, ETSU must have looked like a keeper. There still appears to be no place else to go with this Stanton-Mullins model. We go backwards while all others who come through this farm league are going forward. How does that make Buc fans feel?
When we talk about a new ETSU arena, that's what I envision. The only upgrade it needs are the wrap around scoreboard around the upper/lower deck. That also looks like it's built to house hockey as well, while still maintaining a nice basketball atmosphere.
The scheduling Belmont comment is just moronic. What about Ole Miss? I think ETSU/Ole Piss have comparable enrollments.
Wow! When do we break ground? They figured it out up there and we can here.

I think PittsburghBucs will approve of a Bucs/Rebels matchup because Ole Miss has 1,000 more students than we do (17,000). Vanderbilt, on the other hand, should not be scheduled by ETSU because they are smaller than us with only 11,800 students . . . proving that they aren't as strong as we are in basketball. 03-lmfao

Hey Coach Bartow:
Call Byrd back and do a home and away. It's always a good attendance draw at both locations; and, when we get beat as usual, it won't matter so much because it's going to be out-of-conference. Belmont may not run in the same circles as a Michigan State or UCLA; but, they are a bit closer to that level than we are. I would equate Belmont to being Tennessee's answer to College of Charleston (11,700 students), Butler (4,700 students), and Gonzaga (7,300 students). We can't schedule any of these schools either because they are smaller than ETSU.

I think "we" already have figured it out ("we" meaning everyone on this board) . . . now it's the ETSU Leadership's time to figure it out.......here's hoping!

Doesn't it kind of feel like when your neighbor gets a brand new car while you're still driving the same old rust-bucket?

Never with Dave Mullins. He's had nine years -- and how far along is he towards achieving the "Pathway to Excellence", $87 million athletic capital campaign? Compared to other regional universities, even these DII schools, Mullins has been a disaster. What an embarrassment. How he keeps his cozy job is beyond comprehension.
I was wrong, it's $81 million. Again, how much have you raised Dave? Almost a decade now and not even a drawing of a basketball arena. What an outstanding job Dave. You're the man.

But, the last ten years have been good for tennis. Nothing else though. Thanks Dave.
