Not much new here, but I did find this line buried at the bottom of the story interesting as it was the first non-bulletin board reference to something the Big East may be doing to help Boise.

Multiple sources said Boise State would need to help offset travel costs in the Big West, much like Hawaii is doing with its sports (all but football are in the Big West this fall with football going to the Mountain West). The Big West, save Hawaii, is essentially a travel-by-bus league in California. Pacific, located in Stockton, is moving to the West Coast Conference in 2013. Sources said Boise State could get financial help from the Big East in order to facilitate a move to the Big West.

This is also an encouraging line:

Quote:Big West commissioner Dennis Farrell told ESPN.com recently that the board of directors were open to adding Boise State.
As for the distribution from the BCS, it sure as hell will be more than the MWC, and the BE TV contract with Boise will still be several times that of the MWC. Nobody is going to know the actual numbers for months. Sometimes, you just have to make rational decisions based on the best known info.

It's encouraging that the BWC BOD is open to Boise, and that the BE is willing to lend financial assistance. I'm thinking this will work out.
I feel bad for Adelson... she will be out of a job at this rate with the conference crumbling and ESPN possibly giving up broadcasting rights in the Fall negotiations.

Why? She already covers the non-AQs as well as the BE for ESPN . Nothing seemingly will change in that regard. The B1G gets 2 guys, the SEC gets 2 guys, but the others only have one each.

I read her blog on the "new look" rivalries the BE will have, and got the impression there that she was like, "sigh... ESPN giving me the ***** work again... sigh"

She'll get over it. If she doesn't like it, I'll take the job.
Andrea Adelson is more a propagandist than a reporter at this point.

And yet she is the only member of the mainstream media who has even begun to stick up for the BE. She's been harsh, too, but she actually wrote a positive column on the BE this past month.
I love how writers are saying Boise is 'at risk' of missing the deadline, etc., as if Boise has no idea they only have a few days left...

+1. Also, yesterday there was a live chat from with all the bloggers and varioius fans chiming in. Adelson stuck up for the Big East throughout the chat. She was the only one who pointed out the ACC's 2-14 BCS Bowl game record and how the Big East's OOC record stacks up against anyones since 2005. The previous blogger, Brian Bennett, hated the Big East and over time, got very nasty about it with his blogs. AA started out slow, but she is starting to grow into her position.

I noticed that, too. Most people on message boards and in blogs seem to assume that nobody directly involved in any particular negotiation or situation knows anything.

I know in recruiting, fans post every day wondering if their coach is aware of a particular prospect, like they somehow found out, but the coach, whose job it is to be successful at recruiting, wouldn't have a clue, lol.

You're right. The conference is alive and well in whatever amalgamation it will be. There will continue to be games played on the field and things to discuss. I would just be a little ticked off covering a conference that constantly downgrades and is a laughing stock to the rest of the country. Not that I wouldn't be happy about having a job at least.
EVERYBODY FREAK OUT
Boise is at 0% chance of missing the deadline, Unless they choose to do so.

Dennis Farrell doesn't have a vote. Plus, Dennis Farrell is a graduate of San Diego State. I therefore put little stock into his pro-Boise comment.

I also have to say that the complete absence of any hint of Big East assistance to Boise in this is disheartening. The BE needs Boise for its football "RPI" going forward and I'm convinced Boise would get accepted to the Big West in a heartbeat if Fresno was also included in the deal. Yeah, I know Fresno isn't as good an addition as BYU, but BYU ain't comin'. And yeah, I know that many prefer AFA but AFA won't commit. Fact is, the BE's stagnancy on adding a third member west of Texas is annoying a number of fans, as this blog exemplifies:

http://www.obnug.com/2012/6/26/3117901/i...al-thought

SDSU is in even without Boise assuming the rest of you guys would still want us. However, with the utmost respect, the BE needs to decide whether it actually wants to be a national conference. If it does, it will do everything necessary to keep Boise in the fold. If it doesn't do that, at a minimum it will show an absence of the proper commitment to western expansion. And let's be honest, to some, it will exude great incompetence.
What exactly do you want the Big East to do to help Boise State? If the answer is adding Fresno State, in hopes that the Big West will then take the Broncos and Bulldogs as a package deal, I agree and this should have already happened months ago. Unfortunately, there are too many snobs running things, and their attitude is Air Force or BYU or bust. They don't seem to comprehend the concept of add Fresno State now and get the other two later.

Beyond that, what else can the Big East do, within the realm of remaining sensible? Paying the Big West some obscene ransom like $3 million per year is nothing but extortion and should not happen under any circumstances. The Big West needs to understand that there is a limit to what they should be seeking. Boise State should also be looking at going through with the WAC or joining the Summit League instead of fixating on the Big West like a stalker.

That pretty much sums it up. Though, I have to admit I wasnt for adding anyone either until Boise started making noises about going back to the Mountain West. If Im truthful, my preference was to wait for the contract to be nailed down and then approach BYU and Air Force one last time. However, once the leadership learned Boise could go back to the MW, they should have switched gears.....you know...a bird in the hand and all that stuff.
