Per Mlive. Looks like our former Bronco leader has made another move.
There HAS to be more to this story.
Most Red Wing fan boards seem to think it's a demotion from being in charge of a poor PP and overall not being ready for dealing with NHL players. Running the minor league team might be more in line with his experience.

I suspect this whole thing was a mutual agreement. I'm thinking JB's family wasn't ready for the NHL, and this was an out for everyone. I am disappointed- leaving the Broncos for the Wing's is one thing. Ending up in GR after only one season is a kick in the stomach.
Not a lot out there about AHL salaries but he could be making less than Murray and have a ton more games to coach.

Pretty much. First thing I thought is that this is a horizontal move AT BEST. He'll be lucky to be making as much as he did at WMU (he's CERTAINLY making less than Murray) and his teams will be playing in front of smaller crowds in bigger barns and in less important games.

The AHL sucks. Anyone in West Michigan who goes to AHL games over far superior college in the area is an idiot.
Huh, interesting. On the one hand, he *is* good at developing players and I'm sure there's some merit to the Wings making that point about the hire. But it also does still seem like a demotion. Time will tell I guess?
At least one good thing....Blashill will be staying in the Michigan area and still close to WMU....not so bad for him to keep an eye on Bronco prospects. Might be a demotion....but still good for us.
?

He's not going to have any time to look for prospects for WMU. Being an AHL coach is a full time job. And they have scouts to find prospects for the Wings, who would continue to come to Lawson regardless especially after the conference shuffle and Denver, North Dakota and UMD come to town on top of whoever plays for Western.
Bronconick....didn't mean he would actively be looking at Bronco players and scouting them....just that he might have a natural inclination to keep an eye on his "former" Broncos...or at least more of an inclination because he remains close. If he had been let go by the Wings and say....had been hired as an assistant by Anaheim for example...that inclination would probably be much less if any! And "yes" even I KNOW an AHL team is a full time job!
It's too bad.... he could have been a legend at WMU, already kind of is. I guess when you get a shot like he did you have to try to take it.

You have to start to wonder, though. Is he ever going to settle down and really establish something or is he going to continue to flit from job to job every year.

I don't think this was really his choice. It's either take the Griffins job or find new employment outside the organization.
Power play was an issue, it was obvious that there were issues, unless Pavel ad libbed, it was ineffective most of the time.
Poetic justice being demoted. Leaving WMU after only one year soon after signing a new high salary contract.
Babcock got cute on the whole thing. Both assistants he hired last year had zero NHL coaching experience. Someone was going to be the fall guy if they didn't win it all with that kind of bench.
I think you're right, it looked to me to be just that. Babcock thought he would get a couple of head shakers in there who would do exactly as he wanted and everything would be fine, and if it didn't work, they take the fall. No risk.

Good work if you can get it, and he did get that in his job description. If you read Blashill's statement, he said he didn't make the move unless "Mike was ok with it", that is a political way of saying, "Mike pulled the trigger".
Hey, guys! Ain't hindsight "20/20"! Still....All of us I'm sure...wish Jeff the best....I will predict that he will be back in the NHL again! And eventually as a head coach. What do they say..."one step at a time" and don't skip any steps for fear of tripping. Getting the Griffins is simply returning to the step he jumped. After all he could have been like President Ford....in a "heap at the bottom of the stairs".

Really don't care, he's history to us now. The Red Wing aspect of it interested me more than anything, I'm not totally sold on Babcock.

Don't quite get your hindsight statement, we were talking about the move to GR. WTF?!
