Round 3 (67): Mackenzie MacEachern, LW, Brother Rice HS, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Wow, that's pretty high for a Michigan HS player. Apparently he was the MHSAA player of the year and he's going to play at MSU because he likes those ugly jerseys.

3rd rd for a Michigan HS player? Anyone know if that is a record?
Abdelkader went 2nd round to Detroit in 2005.
That's right. Good call.

Unfortunately, after further review, hockey reference says Abdelkader played for Cedar Rapids (USHL) in 04-05. He played at Mona the year before.

Oh. I just knew he won Mr. Hockey one year and was from Shores.
Yeah, I knew he played at Mona and was Mr. Hockey, but I wasn't sure if he was drafted out of HS. I went through a bunch of the 2000s drafts at hockey reference and MacEachern might be a record.
Mike Knuble?
I don't believe Knuble was drafted out of EK, but I will look it up.

Yeah, he played for the Junior K-Wings when he was drafted and he was also a 4th rd pick. Check out this stat line:

1988-89 16 East Kentwood High High-MI 28 52 37 89
1989-90 17 East Kentwood High High-MI 29 63 40 103
1990-91 18 Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings NAHL 36 18 24 42

Jesus, 103 points in 29 games? Wow.
Hah.

"Guys, our mission tonight is to keep Knuble from scoring a hat trick. If you do that, we won't be destroyed."
