With impending move, ODU joins recruiting race

Quote:The Football Championship Subdivision school used to wait for the state's big programs to set their agendas and targets, then react accordingly. Not anymore.

Looks like Andy Bitter may be taking over for Rich Radford.
Thanks for posting this Sirloin.

We have been doubted every step along the way in this process, and I am sure the embedded ACC schools scoff at the idea of competing with us for recruits. It will take some time (and an upgraded stadium), but there is no reason we cannot be a factor for top talent.
Good article. I thought this stat was particularly interesting:

Quote:MOST FBS SIGNEES BY STATE IN 2012
Texas -- 371
Florida -- 325
California -- 228
Georgia -- 165
Ohio -- 159
Alabama -- 94
Louisiana - 85
Pennsylvania -- 83
Michigan -- 67
Illinois -- 65
North Carolina -- 54
Virginia -- 52
New Jersey -- 50

2012 SIGNING CLASSES
Team: Signees | 5-star | 4-star | 3-star | 2-star
Virginia Tech: 28 | 0 | 7 | 19 | 0
Virginia: 26 | 0 | 4 | 16 | 0
Old Dominion: 17 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 7 (source: Rivals)

Monarch fans, we are closer than you think to competing. Give it a few years. Keep giving your support, your money to this thing, and we'll shock the nation.

No doubt. ECU occasionally pulls recruits away from the ACC schools in the state. No reason ODU cannot do the same.
One thing I've noticed about VT its that they don't ever have a very highly rated recruiting class. They don't try to go out and get every 4 or 5 star recruit and try to make them fit, they recruit the best that already fit their system. It works for them.
Well, per Rivals they did have the #24 class for 2013. But looking at recruiting rankings looks pretty much like a football poll, so all the top 25-35 programs will be on there.
