Full Version: What about this idea for a NC Playoff?

I've been trying to keep up with all the different ideas for the College Football NC Playoff and I just want to throw another idea out there. If this has already been discussed, please accept my apologies.

I propose a 5 team/4 game playoff for the NC. Seeds 1, 2 & 3 would be the highest ranked conference champions among the big 6 conferences. (Yes, that includes the Big East). Seeds 4 & 5 would be the highest ranked at-large teams from any conference or independant. The first game would be a play-in game between the 2 at-large teams, then seed #1 would play seed #3, and seed #2 would play the at-large winner.

This scenerio would allow an opportunity for the #1 ranked team to still be in the playoff if they did not win their conference championship game. They would simply be in the play-in game. It also gives the other conferences the opportunity to have an at-large team in the playoff. Any independant teams would have to be ranked in the top 5 but could only be in the play-in game. I would also add that no conference could have more that 2 teams in the playoff to prevent a conference from dominating the playoff.

This could satisfy everyone because it has: 1) the top ranked teams in the playoffs, 2) conference champions in the playoffs, 3) teams outside the big 6 conferences in the playoffs, and 4) the independants in the playoffs.

Any thoughts?
If your going to have three game dates than just go to an 8 team playoff.

The eight team playoff solves almost all the problems, but it is still a NO GO proposal because the powers that be find it completely unacceptable to play that many games (those poor student athletes). If your going to cross the two game threshold than an eight team playoff makes alot more money than a 5 team playoff.

Honestly I think we will have an eight team playoff down the road, but these "leaders" just have their heads so far up their butts they can't go with the right solution too fast because it would reveal the idiocy of all the past decisions.
