Are we actively doing any fundraising? I would like to have a goal to work toward in terms of dollars collected, pledged dollors, sponsors dollars etc.actively going forward toward the stadium project.
IT IS ALWAYS EASIER TO SEE WHERE YOU ARE GOING WITH THE LIGHTS ON.

I will set up a PayPal account that you can donate to. All money will be earmarked to an OCS.
This has been brought up before. Perhaps someone at FreeUAB can enlighten us on whether or not some kind of active fundraising movement is either underway or being contemplated. I'd gladly pledge something from my paycheck monthly.
Fund are being raised behind the scenes

We have new signage at legion field, a new jumbotron in Bartow, a new softball field, and we are sharing the new baseball stadium with the Barons, to expect anything more is just...well...uncivilized. UAB, moving forward, behind the scenes.
i thought people have said something to the effect of it being illegal to publicly solicit funds specifically earmarked for a project that doesn't exist...please don't quote that

Well then we'll say my PayPal account will be for my personal use, but it will be actually for the OCS. No, really.
Blazr is taking donations. 05-stirthepot

i meant that the university isn't allowed to earmark funds. I'm pretty sure you can collect money and say its for whatever you want. if i don't use paypal, can i just send a check made out to "memphisblazer"?

I don't think it's illegal, but there are several problems with collecting money for a project that doesn't exist. The main one is no real money is going to come in. Sure, you may get some folks on BlazerTalk to donate a couple of hundred bucks, but you can't get the thousands and hundreds of thousands needed to put a dent in the costs. And later you posted about not being able to earmark donations, they do that all the time. But, again, for projects that are approved and actually on the books.

If you called UAB and asked they'd just ask you to donate generally to the athletics department, but that money will go to pay for current needs, not the stadium.
Just trying to get a better understanding of how projects like this get completed with public and private dollars. I am tired of sitting on the bench feeling helpless and left behind. I am one of thousands of alumnus that want to know what we can do to
truly get this project done.

Start by not listening to the cynical buttholes on blazertalk. I think that it is perfectly reasonable for alumni to get together, set goals and donate to a private fund earmarked for whatever they want. That money can be set up in trust donated to UAB athletics to be used toward a OCS when the the time comes. Go to one of the alumni meetings and speak to someone reputable about what you can do.

I was referring back to my original post. Of course the university can earmark funds...but not for a project that doesn't exist (my entire 2nd post was sarcasm)

Perhaps "illegal" isn't the correct term, but I do believe it's forbidden for the University to publicly solicit funds for a project that doesn't exist...it goes beyond "several problems." (I have no real official knowledge, so please don't think I'm presenting this as fact).

Haven't been called that one before .

And its us cynical buttholes at Blazertalk that will soon be bringing you your Blazer News as soon as the newspapers go away.

If I had a band, "Cynical Buttholes at Blazertalk" would be a leading name candidate.

03-lmfao what makes you think I meant you? I include myself in that group too and I already get my blazer news from here and have for a while, so that won't change.

Something that needs to happen is that we need to get our number of donors up. The goal is 1000 by September, and we're roughly 150 people away. If we can get to that number, I believe it would make a statement that we could rub in the faces of the BOT.

The only number that matters is attendance. Not even the win/loss record, except that the w/l affects attendance.
No. The number of people putting their money where their mouth is by donating is very much a number that matters. Butts in seats adds to that as a measure of interest and potential cash flow.
Put your mind at ease. Some of us Blazertalk insiders are working on it.
I think setting up some sort of trust fund account that private individuals could donate to with the intent to gift to the OCS project once it comes online is a great idea.
