I'm of the opinion athletics should be dropped altogether.

HAHHK* SPIT>> worth about the same as your opinion.
THE KSU board is that away. have nice day.
Actually hahhk spit is worth the same as etsu basketball and more than a football program in which you do not have and aren't likely to acquire within the next twenty years. Hahhk spit is representative of your sad devotion to a futile dream.
I certainly hope Nolan brings football back before 2036.

KSU is just tired of losing to the Bucs in absolutely everything. Football would be the final straw causing KSU to knock itself down to NAIA D-II ultra-non-scholarship. 03-nutkick
A few more years of the Mullins era unchained and etsu would had certaimly fallen from division 1. It still may. Thus far Noland hasn't changed anything other than the priority order of new stadiums to come. Which admittedly is a big blow to the mullins agenda but until the department is cleaned out not much will change. Meanwhile it's been one public screw up after the other for the mullins athletic dept these past months.

Mocking Kennesaw, at this point in history, is a desperate attempt to deceive yourself into believing etsu is still the mighty big brother to these little Asun schools. Times have changed and you're no longer sitting ontop the food chain.
Reading the article, the JC Press sticks to the Stanton spin -- after all these years, and the man is now gone, by printing once again that football was "losing $1 million a year, draining limited state dollars from the university's other sports and academic programs" ..... football was "running a deficit"

The latest USA Today data shows that ETSU's athletic budget of 2010 was being subsidized to the tune of 78% as follows:
From Student Fees 26%
From Institutional Support 52%

Now, what part of this data suggests that the elimination of football addressed the "running a deficit", "losing money" problem of the ETSU athletic department?
People aren't mocking Kennesaw, they're mocking you. If there ever was a case of butthurt, you've got it. You're little cute comments are funny, the railings of a bitter person whom while is most likely harmless, made a very dumb comment on this board and got yourself a message that you're not welcome for basketball games.
At the end of the day when I think about it, you're a very sad person. Some might feel sorry for you, I do not. You're a "Kennesaw" fan but yet you're over here, adding nothing really to the conversations other than the spew and splooge of a little hermit who got put in his place by of all people a guy who I hope still uses makeup on that bald head for TV appearances. That's what it is, you and ya other boy are the butthurt brothers. Two nothings in life on an internet crusade, what crusade nobody really knows, but a crusade nonetheless.

Someone sounds a bit bitter. 03-hissyfit
Gold- buddy- you know I love ya, but coming on a bit strong, huh?

I don't think ETSU should drop sports altogether. However, I think with the moves made over the past several years ETSU has doomed itself to a sort of mid-major mediocrity.

Okay, I can see under the current way they are doing things continuing to win A-Sun all sports trophies, whatever they are, and probably making the NCAAs every 2.5 years or so in men's hoops until the NCAA loses their major conferences, which I get the feeling they will eventually.

And sadly, making the NCAAs and hoping the team doesn't embarass itself is all ETSU has become. Gold and I dreamed of the days where the program could be a real player.

I realize why people are saying "being patient." I didn't expect Brian Noland to come in and wave a magic wand on his first day and still don't.

But here's the deal. I think we'll know a lot more if David Mullins is still on board at the end of the summer. And frankly, Noland could have fired him by now for just the horrible way things have gone since he took over (you had TWO YEARS to build a ballpark and it still has no seats? You throw your underling under the bus publicly when a half time promotion hits a snag? Why is it the basketball team must play in front of 6,000 empty seats again?).

Patience? Sure. It's just you'd like to see a bit more signs coming out of ETSU for change, and really there haven't been many.
Lover:

Had I thought your remarks concerning my decision to walk away from etsu worthy of comment, believe me, you would had heard from me....months ago.

Pitt:
Considering what etsu athletics once was and could had been I find it difficult to justify its burden on the tax payer. Etsu athletics is dead. It's just not broke. The final death blow is being drawn up now in the form of a typical Asun arena. Yes etsu is dead, alright. The vast amount of east tn citizenry know this. Attendance numbers point this out.

With high school sports, the university of Tennessee, and Appalachian State for those who enjoy mid major football...a division 2 program operating on a division 1 budget is simply not needed or wanted. Let's have the decency to provide it with what little dignity it has left by pronouncing a thing dead which is so.
I just did hear from you ******* so obviously it was worth comment. You didn't walk away, let's keep that straight skipper. Go make some other moronic baseball reference.
Lover can't even keep his posters straight now.

If that's the case, then why do I (and so many other Buc fans) spend $$$$ on season BB tix, soccer tix, admissions to select volleyball & softball games, and Pirate Club (yes, to me, it will always be the Pirate Club . . . changing the name to BASASASASASA doesn't gloss-over dropping football). Further, I haven't spent a single dollar for any athletic event at any other university (Appy State, UT, or wherever) unless they happened to be hosting the Bucs. By the way, who leads the A-Sun in average men's basketball attendance?

Buc sports are far from dead . . . they're just being run-down by crappy leadership. Remember what Lee Iacocca did for Chrysler when he took over its helm back in the 1980's? I am confident that our next AD will be our Lee Iacocca.

About the remark:
"The final death blow is being drawn up now in the form of a typical Asun arena."

I hope we do get an A-Sun style basketball arena.....especially if rinky-dink Northern Kentucky University is going to be the new standard (2-decks, 9,800 seats, video boards, etc.). Go to their athletic site and check it out. It's amazing that a D-II school can build something like that! That could explain their commitment to basketball and their success as a D-II powerhouse. If not that, I wouldn't mind a Belmont or Lipscomb style arena....providing we build it with better lighting and a bit more seats (I think BU and LU both only seat 5,000).
Sixties,

You want an Asun arena with more seats, more levels, and better lighting... Therefor you do not want an Asun arena.

Etsu is most certainly dead. Attendance is embarrassing. The few left who still fal into the category you described will either be dead or on their way out in twenty years from now. There will not be enough of upcoming generations to take their place. Prarily because etsu is not in the place to put out a product worthy of support. The problem with this board is that it's never been honest with itself concerning realities of where etsu stands. Just as I informed you people the team that beat Campbell, KSU, and Mercer to win the Asun tournament was terrible I'm telling you etsu is not coming back. You are Mercer now. As with before it's going to take some of you a few years to accept it. But not all of us are as slow on the take.
Also, sixties, if There are soo many people who support etsu then let etsu athletics survive without the taxpayers. Now tell me how many etsu athletic supporters there are.

And athletics at ALL state universities. I guess most of them should be shut down.
The key difference is your asking the TN taxpayer to pay for a division one program (money wise) but get a product more akin to a division two atmosphere. It's clear from attendance and overall community apathy the public are just not interested in this failure of a program.

I'm sorry we don't rise to the elite status of your mighty Kennesaw State Owls. I'm sure cutting tax funding from ETSU and all other state universities will help those departments grow and prosper SO much and help improve that "Division two atmosphere".
