Tonight was the last broadcast of 97X WOXY, imo the most influential (when it comes to music) radio station in the area.

I don't know how many of you were listeners, but I know it's always been the #1 preset on every car I've owned.
I lived in Oxford from 84 to 89. I always wished 97 had a tower in Cincy so I could listen once I left MU.
I was wondering what was up because I knew it was going to be off the air, just didn't know when.

Please tell me they aren't replacing it with country.

I guess I need to flip it on and see.

My understanding from some of the articles I've read is that Sledge is staying with the new station as Program Director and the format will be similar, just not completely the same. I think he's the only on-air personality that is moving to the new station, which will be called X97.7, New Music First.

Doug Balogh and his wife are still trying to get funding together to keep 97X on the air as a webcast and hope to have it running again at http://www.woxy.com sometime soon if they can get the investors. They're keeping the rights to WOXY, 97X, and the 97X "BAM" The Future of Rock and Roll tag line. They also have all the CD's and vinyl library.
I heard that the webcast will not be continued. I didn't listen to them go off the air last night, but some friends of mine did. They said the last words were "This is the end of the future of rock and roll."

How depressing. :frown:
