Yip-freaking-eeee...

Pretty clear what is happening to our bowl situation 03-puke

However, SD is a great bowl destination regardless of the opponent 04-rock
If we could get a good Big 12 opponent, that would be sweet. We already played TCU once in that bowl. Wouldn't mind having the chance to meet them again.

If the aim is to get some western bowls for the western teams, what options are there? We're not getting Rose or Fiesta. And outside of those, I really don't know any high-profile national bowls available in the west.

Sun Bowl has history I guess, but I don't know the prospects of that one.
If we can get good opponents for those, then I'm game. But, wasn't the Poinsettia a WAC/MWC matchup? 03-puke

As I said, though, based on the locations, I'm in anyway. I just won't be as excited about the game as I am the trip.
Big Bowls are made by big opponents. Get a Pac-12 or B-12 tie-in and this could be a hot bowl.
Poinsettia, Sun, Ticket City, Liberty should all be options.

Two years ago it was a matchup of 2 Big East teams...COGS

San Diego State Vs Navy

Knowing Bruce Binkowski, I would guess his dream matchup for that Bowl would be Big East vs Pac 12.
I could take a big east #3 or 4 vs pac 12 #4 or 5. If it was against the MWC it'd have to be no higher than a 6th pick for big east against maybe the MWC #2 if not their champion.
That's an amazing bowl destination and would be a great get.
Right now there are not ton's of bowls available, you are simply trying to fill holes with the best available. Poinsettia makes sense as an add for Navy, and SDstate.

The key for any bowl game is the payout and the opposition. I would be on board with playing in the New Orleans Bowl if they announced they were going to increase the payout to $3M and it pitted the Big East #3 against the SEC #4 or 5.

If the Poinsettia Bowl is in the cards I hope they have us against a strong opponent.

And it beats the heck out of the Sun Bowl in this sense. San Diego is sometimes referred to as America's Finest City. El Paso? It's sometimes called El Armpit.

But close for Houston and SMU fans.

Liberty is a done deal. As soon as the deal with CUSA ends, the Big East will be a permanent addition.

Big East will almost certainly have deals with East Coast and West Coast Bowls...and it most likely not matter where you finish in the conf...as odds are...the Big East teams out West will stay out West (or to TX) to play their Bowl Games...and Big East Teams in the Mid-South/East will stay in the East (to TX) and play their Bowl Games.

Bowls/teams want more regionalized bowl agreements as the days of 30,000 plus fans flying across country for meaningless exhibition days (outside a few) are long-gone.
Sounds good to me. But, really, the main thing is getting a quality bowl for our champion. That is what the BE needs to focus on.

Ticket City and Armed Forces are closer.

Absolutely, which is why I think they more or less tabled the discussion for a while. They need that marquee bowl tie-in first. Get that settled, then worry about the rest.
