Looks like the polls are out. Not that they mean a damn thing right now, but I like the fact that we are ranked right in the middle. Need some confidence without delusions of grandeur.

Here tis:

Oh man, they have St Joe's at number 18??? They just lost the 2 best players they had and have nobody to really step into either's shoes.
christ, is that for NEXT season?? i wonder what makes them think missouri will be so good. duke lost three starters and may be struggling a bit as well.

i think uc is about where they should be.

i wouldn't have saint joseph's on there at all.

i wouldn't have auburn on there at all.

i think they have texas a little high. they will probably be in the 20s if they are anywhere.

gonzaga is one season away from once again being a final four contender (if they can hold on to everyone) but i think #10 is a little unrealistic for a preseason ranking for NEXT season.

louisville should probably be higher than that.

i think wake forest will start off ranked around #5 or better in both the ap and coaches' poll. if not, it won't take them but a few weeks to get up that high. they are WAY underrated in this poll. i've read a couple of places where some publications are voting them #1.

everyone else is kinda hard to call. i guess i agree with about half the poll.
UConn loses Gordon and Emeka and is still #1?

Georgia Tech not even in? Did they have a mass-NBA-exodus that I'm unaware of?

Oklahoma State also way underrated.

An EFFECTIVE Whaley will be the difference between UC's #21 ranking and top ten.
Brew,
I agree St. Joes lost way too much to be ranked high (probably to be ranked at all). Jameer Nelson continues to be underrated.

Louisville is tough, it all comes down to how they integrate these new studs. I would take a flier though and rank them higher as well. Garcia is going to be a top 5 player in the country next year.

Marquette is ranked higher than UC in a couple of these. Can someone help me out here? Did Kevin Garnett enroll while I wasn on vacation?

Yeah, Wake is going to be really tough.

Missouri? Did someone add coaching expertise oil to Snyder's pomade?
yet again, no mississippi state!!!

it isn't just this site, but it is EVERYONE!! when are people going to recognize how good mississippi state is?? with all due respect to uc, i don't think they'll be as good as mississippi state and neither will a lot of other teams they have ranked. i think mississippi state will be BETTER this year than they were last year. i don't know if you guys remember the thread about how attractive the uc job was and i said that rick stansbury and john brady would likely be interested. well, this is why.

georgia tech and lsu are missing as well, but auburn isn't. it is as if they just randomly selected teams out of a hat.
This one (Lindy's) is by far the worst. Wow!

1. Connecticut
2. Duke
3. Missouri
4. Michigan State
5. Wisconsin
6. Syracuse
7. Kansas
8. Arizona

21. Marquette
22. Maryland
23. Louisville

Brew,
Mississippi St is going to be good. Take your bet to vegas (or online).

I am serious, you could probably get some huge odds right now if you take Miss st going to the final four. Someone has to be taking action on proposition (futures) bets for the tournament. There will be zero money on Miss st., you can make a mint.
That list is not worth the electrons it was created with.

UConn without Gordon and Okafor, Dook without Deng, Missouri with it's issues, no Ga Tech. 03-confused

:stupid:

Dumbest list I've seen to date.

THE BearcatBrent
Ha for once it appears that the "national media" is more optimistic than bearcat fans. This is one of the few years I wouldn't put UC in the top 25. people are worried about what Max will do, and White needs to get stronger. Whaley may or may not be on the team next year. No starting shooting guard. New point. So that makes us a top 25?

Oh and where's Xavier? I thought they were going to be a national power after their elite 8 run. :frown:
Stanford? They lose Justin Davis, Joe Kirchoffer (sp?), and lotto pick Josh Childress. They have no one on their team besides Rob Little and Chris Henandez. Oh yeah, and that lost their coach, but that shouldn't be too big a deal, right?

Are we sure that they didn't put up last seasons preseason polls out by accident? Any poll w/out UNC as the top team doesn't deserve any merit.

peace.
That Lindy's list has to be from last season. No way Stanford should be ranked.

I actually predict that Nick Williams at SG will be one of our best starters.

I thought about that when I posted. But it is a change in position for him from last year. I don't think we've seen all he can do, so he's untested. Good call, however.
You were right, that site posted Lindy's 2003 picks as 2004 preseason.
Makes a heck of a lot more sense.

all of this fuss over nothing
mississippi state would be a good team to put some money on. as soon as i get some i might do just that. it is comedic. i don't believe mississippi state has been ranked in the preseason for the past three or four years.
here is a quick poll and some rants i threw together.

my picks and rants (i still think about college basketball in july):

1. north carolina
2. illinois
3. wake forest
4. mississippi state
5. oklahoma state
6. pittsburgh
7. louisville
8. kentucky
9. syracuse
10. duke
11. connecticut
12. stanford
13. wisconsin
14. kansas
15. cincinnati
16. memphis
17. georgia tech
18. oklahoma
19. north carolina state
20. southern illinois
21. oregon
22. florida
23. texas
24. providence
25. michigan state

byu might be pretty good next year, but they are really f'n hard to keep track of. you never know who is leaving for missions, who is coming back, and how good they will be once they get back. i've pretty much given up trying to keep track of them.

michigan could also have a real good year. i thought they'd be really good last year, but MAN they struggled. they are another team that is hard to call, but i wouldn't be surprised to see them make a few appearances in the top 25. same with creigthon. i haven't seen their schedule yet. they need to play a tougher out of conference schedule than they did last year, even if it means going on the road. if a team like creighton is trying to draw national attention to themselves and do not play a lot of games on television, then they sure as hell aren't going to do it by staying home and playing the bottom feeders from lower level conferences. when you play on the road against a higher level team, at least SOMEBODY besides your own fans is getting a chance to see you play. gonzaga is the master of this. they schedule oklahoma state to what they call a "tv game," then they call espn, cbs, etc and ask them to put it on. if it works out, they schedule the game officially. if not, they go to the next team on their list and try again. playing on the road on national television is better financially and competitvely than playing cupcakes at home. creighton should take a chapter out of the book of mark few and apply this concept. as should dayton. as should xavier.

speaking gonzaga, they are once again playing what looks like to be a killer out of conference schedule that would make john chaney proud. it'll be interesting to see if they can get themselves into the rankings this year. they'll be DAMN good the following year.

i wish the season was starting tomorrow. i miss college basketball.
O,
Not just two of their best players...two of the best players ever in the history of the program.
I'm putting Arkansas Pine Bluff in the #1 slot! 03-razz
