Just a bunch of random thoughts:

How does the SBC Version x

East
Fau
Middle
Usa
Troy
wku

West
ASU
Ualr
Ull
Ulm
G ST.
Texas St.

I like who we have gotten rid of. Denver, fiu, and unt. Sucks about unt but the other long travel schools I am glad to be rid of.

Is basketball better off rpi wise in the new configuration?
Unt could win out of conference games but the other two not so much. The new schools? Well, Tx. St. probably sucks at bb and I don’t know that ga St is any better. Texas St. is probably about the same as FIU without the top flight talent. Ga St. looks like they won a bunch of games last year like we do. They won against a bunch of teams that are about mid-major or less.

I think cusa will have to take middle too, so we could be down to just wku in bb.

Does a weaker conference help us?

I kind of think it does. Hell, the sbc has been in the play in game the last two years.

Are you more excited about the new teams than the old ones?

I can't get up for the new teams but honestly, I did not get up for the old teams. unt a little but I always viewed them at top flight talent and a well, not so top flight coach.

First of all, I think your alinement is askewed.

I predict that the new SBC East will consist of:

Florida Atlantic
Georgia State
Middle Tennessee
Western Kentucky
Troy
South Alabama

The SBC West will be:

ASU
UALR
ULL
ULM
Texas State
UTA

The loss of FIU was an addition by subtraction of a very weak basketball program. UNT not so much, but UTA has had just as much success as them lately and is at least on par with them. Like you, Texas State is an unknown quantity to me.

Basketball wise, the SBC will be a lot closer in strength to the CUSA than it used to be. The big dog in the CUSA, Memphis, will be gone. The rest are really not much different than the SBC schools in basketball. Not horrible, but not necessarily that good either.

I'm pretty confident that Old Dominion will join the CUSA, so I think Middle Tennessee remains in the SBC for a while. But clearly, if there is another program to be lured away, MTSU would be the prime candidate.
Uta in for sure?
If UTA comes in, they belong in the West, and Georgia State in the East. Texas State is a question mark. I don't really know much about them, except Dennis Nutt was the coach there at one time. Glad to get rid of Denver and FIU. However, we still have FAU, so the travel situation is still relevant. When both Florida teams were in the league, you could schedule both in the same trip. With one, that probably creates problems. I'd like to see FAU leave and replace them with someone more geographically correct. Murray State is still my choice for a new addition to the league, but that doesn't seem to be in the works.
....will be around the Sun Belt Conference for a while. Middle Tennessee was a potential alternate candidate to Old Dominion if the Monarchs decided to not join the CUSA. But ODU is announcing it is joining the CUSA this afternoon:

I would assume Ga St would be in the East regardless.

Looks like a sideways move at best.
