IMO with the Grizzlies.

Starting with Hollins: His substitution philosophy of substituting by feeling is a load of crap and needs to stop. That philosophy blew up in his face during this series. Example: Yesterday to start the 4th the line up was Arenas, Mayo, Rudy, ZBo, and Haddadi. Knowing we have struggled in the 4th and that is the lineup he sends out. Yes I know you have to rest players, but that lineup never should have started the 4th nursing a 1pt lead. Another scary thing is Zach's comment in the paper that the coach needs to draw up more plays for getting the ball to the bigs. If Hollins wasn't drawing up plays for Zach and Marc then he is dumber than I thought. Hollins also needs to not make the final decision on player personnel. Yes he can have an input, but that final decision needs to be Chris Wallace's. The Grevis trade was Hollins idea.
Final thing on Hollins and I never thought I would say this, but VDN greatly out coached Lionel this entire series.

Front Office: Must go get a back up PG. Let OJ and Speights walk and dangle Rudy's name out there just to see what you can get. In the draft go get a shooter.

Players: Continue to get better. Come back next year with more of a purpose. Learn how to finish games.
lol
No way I let Speights walk. We have to make that QO.
Don't have the money most likely to keep speights

We have a good back up point guard, we need a dominating point guard.

We know where he is, he's the other one that played college ball at Memphis.
another thing to keep in mind...and not worth a new thread IMO...

The Olymics this Summer. Marc Gasol will play for Spain and Rudy is a top 20 finalist for the USA squad.

Marc played a ton of minutes for us this year b/c of Zach's injury.

How gassed will he be to start the season as a Grizzly if he plays in London?

Something to think about. He is our MVP.

Sorry Reke is good, but is not a dominating PG. He doesn't even play PG for the Kings. If we brought in Reke it would solve the scoring issue we have not the backup pg role that we desperately need.
James Harden? Steph Curry? oh... wait... Thabeet... yeah, Thabeet.

I still have bad memories of Pau Gasol breaking his foot in the World championships for Spain during the Summer of 2006. We were coming off three straight playoff seasons. By the time Pau was back, we were well under .500 and way down the standings. Hopefully Marc will come out of the Olympics healthy since training camp on October 1st will be here before we know it. Hopefully Lionel Hollins will use him very sparingly during a month of preseason games. Rudy will need the full preseason.

Not that these numbers are gospel, but according to CBS, Conley was the 11th best PG in the league last year statistically. Just behind Steve Nash and Tyreke Evans, and just in front of Rajon Rondo. He's not perfect. But I think by whatever measure, he's better than half of the starting PGs in the league.

In no way, shape, or form is Conley a back up PG.
Conley is a solid PG. Not this team's issue.
It's hard to critique hollins when he just led his team to a 4th place finish in the west. The series loss to the clippers should go on him some though as well as every one of the players. No one played perfect in this series. The whole team lost this together. It wasn't one guy who lost the series for them.

Grizz look to have a problem with keeping bench players this summer. I have a feeling we will lose 2 of 3 between oj, speights, and arthur.

I don't want to break the whole team up and no way i let marc gasol go anywhere. I would entertain moves with any other players. It's a business.

One thing i would like to see hollins do is work on not being stubborn so much. That really covers a couple areas. For example, he seemed to give up on all the pgs, so basically we had conley and oj. 3 other pgs just riding the bench and collecting pay checks. All 3 saw limited times and were bounced in and out of the rotation. That doesn't help the team. If hollins don't "trust" them to play them, move them. And maybe he needs to work more with the bench guys so he will be able to trust them. I would suggest a little more patience with them during the regular season and try to build them up as much as possible vs. letting them rot on the bench. You sure can't count on them in the playoffs once you do that.

Overall, i'm still happy with hollins. We need a backup pg and another sg who could either start or play backup. You could get at least one of those issues taken care of in the draft. Then move out two of these three (arenas, selby, pargo).

I'm still happy with Hollins as well, but if the things Zach said in the paper the other day are true about Hollins not drawing up plays for him and Marc more then that is a major problem. To be out coached by the likes of VDN is pretty pathetic and thats exactly what happened to Hollins.

Hollins put us in this position this year by forcing the Vasquez trade and leaving us without a serviceable back up pg and that absolutely killed this team.
