Well, it was a disappointing way to end the season, no doubt. Wish we would have won but we didn't. That being said, I can't help but see how much the culture has changed for this franchise. 3 years ago we would have been happy just to have made the playoffs. Now we're talking about going deep in the playoffs and winning championships. Lets not get too down. This is still a young team, and teams like the Mavs, Spurs, and Lakers have all experienced first round exits, only to follow it up the next year with a deep playoff run. We just gotta keep grinding.
Totally agree.

And find a player who can consistently shoot and make from the outside.

Bye OJ. Hello John Jenkins.
totally agree

good post
Agree the two major pieces holding us back are backup PG and bench scoring. Both of those killed us this series.
Not down at all. There are some problems that need to be fixed, but we're light years from Vancouver. Tons of upside for this franchise.
good post.

He or Doron Lamb, or take a flyer or marquis teague, and I'm a happy grizz fan.
Nobody we take at 25 is gonna make much of a difference next season as a rookie. I would rather trade it and something funky like a trade exception for a proven veteran like JJ Reddick

I dont know if you could pull reddick for the 25, especially if Howard is leaving. Plus, Reddick is making 7 million/year. It'd be tough making salaries match. This is going to be a really deep draft. I think we could get some good value on a rookie contract. JMO.

But I just dont see a rookie coming in and making an immediate impact for a playoff team trying to get over the hump

Well it'd be easier for a shooter to come in. That's why I've been clamoring for a spot up guy like Jenkins or Lamb. They aren't asked to do too much on offense, and just keep him near the perimeter to spread the floor for the bigs down low. JJ Reddick plays matador defense anyways, so there wouldn't be a whole lot of difference between him and a rookie. Give a guy a training camp, and see what he can do.
Usually I would be all about trading a late 1st rounder, but this is such a deep draft, and we are going to be strapped financially to Gasol, Rudy, Conley, and Zbo. I think we draft a shooter and maybe sign a cheap vet at the PG, because we really don't ask our PG's to have a heavy scoring load, just don't turn the ball over. Who knows, though.
I'm showing my ignorance here but be that as it may, was Arenas signed just for the end of the season and the playoffs this year?

I can't see a justifiable scenario where we don't have our starters back next year. OJ will be gone for sure - Speights? Cunningham? Pick up a proven shooter and a back up PG and try again with these guys. Easier said than done I'm sure.

Arenas was brought on as kind of insurance for the backup point guard role. He can also play the 2. He injured his hand towards the end of the regular season and struggled afterwards to play through it. Clearly wasn't 100% as well.
Our rookie could impact of he can play defense and sit i'm a corner.and shoot open 3's consistently.... That's not too much to ask... Selby will be good for us too fellas...
I don't think we can expect anyone we draft to make an immediate impact. That's just not our track record. We're lucky if they make any impact at all before we ship them. For every Arthur or Vasquez that shows some semblance of promise, there's a Drew Gooden or Hasheem Thabeet. We seem to have more success finding diamonds in the rough on the trade market. No theory is 100% accurate, so maybe this draft is the exception. I just have more faith that our office can achieve an immediate impact through any method besides the draft. The draft is an iffy method for even long term changes, given our track record.
Wouldnt hurt to draft the kid from Vandy who is a lights out shooter....name escapes me for reason though at the moment.
Nothing has changed around here. 03-wink

I wouldn't mind drafting him. Is he expected to drop that far?

Well between Jenkins, Lamb, and Teague, I think one is bound to fall to 25.
