Yet another theoretical situation to fuel a somewhat slow sports day...

Me and my friend were discussing Rudy and he brought up trading him...again. He's not a fan. I usually don't listen to the crazy suggestions he throws out there, but this one has some sizzle to it.

Rudy Gay for Tyreke Evans, straight up...do you pull the trigger?

My answer: Yes (after much thought)
Doubt the trade would work, considering the contracts. Tyreke is making 5.2M next year. Rudy will be making 16.4M next year. There would have to be another contract in there, I think.

Rudy is better now, and I really don't know if Tyreke's potential matches that of Rudy's. If we are bringing in a new SG option, I think he needs to be a three point threat.

I think if we trade Rudy, we need to do so for draft picks (even though we are historically horrible with draft selections)
Tyreke for OJ. Yes

All day everyday...
Rudy Gay and Darrell Arthur for Luol Deng and Taj Gibson. Then re-sign OJ Mayo.
Rudy for Mello

^^ that has possibilities...

Reke for Rudy? No way

Rob

No, no, no. Tyreke is not a good player. How are people missing this?
I want everyone to come back to this thread tonight, after everyone bears witness to what Rudy is about to unleash on the "F"lippers tonight ...

I sure hope so.
i think the deng gibson option could work only if gibson wanted to continue being a backup which I doubt he does. and the bulls need a two guard with some outside shooting abilities look for them to make a push for mayo or jr smith this offseason.
I've been a long time Rudy supporter, but my patience is growing thin. I am tired of watching the likes of Kenyon Martin, at the age of 34, drive past Rudy (from the 3 point line to the hoop) and finish at the rim. Rudy has way too much God-given ability for that to ever happen. Rudy is soft! He doesn't handle the ball well when pressured and reverts to jumpers much too often. The potential for Rudy to be a SUPER STAR, not just an all-star, but a SUPER STAR is there. But potential means nothing if it isn't reached. IMHO, Rudy doesn't seem to have the desire to be consitently great. Hell, I might not either if I could get 20 and 6 without breaking a sweat and get a max contract. That just shows you the ability he has/could have...

That's all I have to say about that. I like Rudy, but I don't think he's a guy we can build around and he's costing us a small fortune. There are plenty of guys that can give us 14-16 a night that cost 1/3 of what we pay Rudy. That's all I am saying...
I might try to package a deal to get Melo for Rudy and/or Mayo and another deal to trade Conley for Tyreke.

The Griz have a great inside game when they follow the game plan. They need some guys that can take it to the hole with authority.

I welcome your opinion, and I'm not trying to be an ass...but how can you be serious? Am I missing the sarcasm...

Exactly. That's what Tyreke brings. He can get to the rim at will. Sure, we need shooters. Go sign Steve Novak for the league minimum and have him camp out in the corner, we don't need to pay a shooter $16M.
Trade Rudy and Pargo for two 1st round draft picks (or maybe one 1st and one 2nd) and a decent veteran back-up PG

Re-sign Mayo (w/ extra funds)
Sign Steve Novack to be our Kyle Korver (w/ extra funds)

Pondexter can start at the 3 and be a great defender and corner three-pointer threat. By doing this, can start Mayo (incentive for staying in Memphis) and Allen can be a defensive force off of the bench while Novack stretches the court with the second unit

PG - Conley, Serviceable veteran, Selby (hopefully a summer camp will help him)
SG - Allen, Mayo
SF - Pondexter, Novack
PF - Randolph, Arthur, Cunningham
C - Gasol, Haddadi

I'd consider Rudy for Luol a near wash. Luol was an all-star and is a stellar defender and rebounder for his size. Throw in Rudy's contract and you could even make the point that Chicago is getting the raw deal with that one.

I loved what DA did for us a couple years ago, but he hasn't playes in 2 straight seasons. I don't think he has any value left to justify a trade for Gibson. He's been great for the Bulls.
Look, I don't see O.J. Mayo being back next season. Too many teams could use a young, scoring wingman in the starting lineup and they will be willing to pay for it. I'd look for a sign and trade, maybe with Golden St. for Brandon Rush to add a 3 point threat (also a FA)

If it isn't obvious by now, we need a secondary ball handler. Say what you want about Evans, he's got great handles. And he can score the ball, making the loss of O.J. less impactful.

I agree we need a veteran back-up PG (that still has some gas left in the tank, unlike Arenas) because Selby needs a lot of work. We also need a dead-eye shooter. All of these things won't come cheap. That's why paying Rudy Gay $16M doesn't put us in a good position when he is the 3rd option on the team (be real).

PG: Conley/Kirk Hinrich or Andre Miller/Selby
SG: Tyreke Evans/Brandon Rush (45% 3 pt. shooter)
SF: Tony Allen/Pondexter
PF: ZBo/Arthur/Cunningham
C: Marc/Speights/Haddadi

***Hinrich or Miller would cost around $4M per year. Rush would be about the same.
Tyreke for rudy. No. That move would require more changes to the roster.

Deng and taj gibson won't be traded for rudy and arthur. Chicago really likes deng. He is a better defender and can score the ball just as well. Gibson has too much potential. Both of them get hurt a little too much, but so does arthur.

Got to admit your anthony davis trade question last week was interesting, but that would be some serious nuts on someone if they made that deal. You are really going all in there that anthony davis is the next 10 year big man superstar. And the possibility of that happening is very real. Still would take some major nuts.
