Good exposure
Seriusly?
Teach a kid how not to lose games
He said he can win CUSA with Alabama players only
I think he really likes and respects uat, I hope he wins and wins big because I am starting to lose my enthusiasm for the guy. I guess there is a clause in his contract that requires him to kiss the ring.
"claws"? I thought a contract only needed a signature to be binding.

i think you can respect what the football team has accomplished (even if they do cheat). That doesn't mean you have to like the fans or the BOT.
Hopefully our contract does have claws.

Clause but claws would probably work as well.

I guess the way the whole ocs situation went down made lose the little respect I did have for uat. I am half way joking about McGee though. I guess I would like for our coach to say, when asked about uat, "I am the coach at UAB and I don't have time to worry about another institution, they should worry about competing against UAB. If we lose a player to them, then we are suppose to but if they lose a player to us, well... that means the player has seen the light"
I think his approach has always been to show Alabama that UAB is not a threat to them. I think he knows the history and has taken the approach to use honey rather than vinegar.

Unfortunately uat can't taste the difference because they are consumed with bitterness. Garrison and Mackin kept their mouths closed and it got them a stab in the back.
I am really excited about the coming season. I think the future of UAB and the direction that the conference is moving in is great. While not thrilled with some of the selections I think that C-USA has picked up some quality schools (UTSA, UNT, LA Tech, and FIU). I think the way the conference has positioned itself in terms of covering major markets is a big plus for the conference. I also think that UAB has a leg up on many of these schools and substantial lead time that will put us in the top tier of our conference in the next few years. I think HCGM is going to be the guy that finally get our football program to where it should be.

It's so awesome that we are getting this kind of attention on a national scale. Albeit a two minute interview, stuff like this is great in terms of getting our name out there and becoming respected. Once we win, hopefully there will be a lot more interviews and national coverage. One big thing I took away from this interview was HCGM's comments on how "they have established a spirit" and have gotten the guys to buy into the dogma of doing everything right on and off the field. This is huge, and I personally believe that this is Callaway's biggest legacy in his time at UAB. Although he never won at UAB, Coach Callaway began preaching this the first day that he took over the team. His hard nosed and stubborn style of coaching was probably his downfall but the fact that he stuck with the "do everything right on and off the field" principle IMO will have a big impact on how HCGM performs during his tenure. When Callaway got to UAB the team was in such disarray that it took him 3 maybe 4 years to get the team to fully buy into this theory, but the team eventually did and it showed in academics and off the field. He set the bar for what is excepted in the classroom (the improvement in the teams GPA and team APR) and off the field (hardly any players ever got into trouble). I think that this made the transition for HCGM so much easier because the players are already accustomed to this way of doing things. Now HCGM can focus on the football aspect of things instead of spending all his time babysitting the player. With this foundation already laid and HCGM's knowledge of how to translate this into success on the field I think big things are on the horizon for UAB Football. I'm excited!!
His constant mentioning of them is getting a little old. But, our bball coach was doing the same up until the week he was fired. Mcgee gets a little while longer to develop a hate for them as strong as mine.
You catch more bees with honey than you do 01-scout. Just bite your lips and move on. Let the man do his job the way he thinks it needs to be done. I doubt he would garner much good will amung HS coaches in this state trashing UAT. I hate UAT as much as anyone here and I don't really care if he says they are the greatest. Just win games and if we ever play them THEN kick their ass. Let us do the trash talking........lol
I just he is not underestimating the quality of football in C-USA. He keep saying that this is Conference USA... yeah... and some really good football is played here. Of course, if he doesnt realize it now, he will by the end of the year.

I agree. Also, regarding HCGM mentioning UAT, practically every interviewer asks him about it. He can't not answer the question. In addition, I have noticed that since HCGM has mentioned the quality of players in Alabama both AU and UAT have increased their recruiting efforts within the state. Previously, they seemed to take the approach that AL players that they didn't want would leave the state and they wouldn't have to think about them again.
I don't have a problem with it.
Until he gives me a reason to be extremely pissed, I will go with the flow.

Maybe he is doing it to make life easier for him in getting what he needs.
