Mike DeCourcey of The Sporting News says Butler will have to change its recruiting style in order to be able to compete in the A-10. Let's see: Butler went to consecutive title games and has one of the best young coaches in the game on a long-term contract, who seemingly does not want to leave. Yes, I guess they will have to change their recruiting philosophy in order to move DOWN to the A-10 level.

I think you are missing his point Michaelspappy. Butler, although they had an off year this year, has dominated the Horizon League year in and year out. What DeCourcey means is that night in and night out, the Atlantic 10 is going to be a lot tougher than the Horizon League.

For instance, last year the Atlantic 10 ended the year as the #7 ranked conference in the RPI. The Horizon ended the year as the #13 ranked conference in the RPI. Last year the Atlantic 10 ended the year with 8 teams ranked in the top 100 of the RPI. The Horizon ended the year with 1 team ranked in the top 100 of the RPI.

Trust me, Butler is moving UP in conference quality, not down.
Wasn't he implying that they could not longer afford to go after the team-oriented, high character players they have been?

Maybe he thinks everybody has to operate like Xavier. They don't and most don't. Butler will do just fine. But racking up a lot of wins in the conference won't be a easy as it was in the Horizon.

I figure it will be a good bit harder.
