We got Memphis as a small lad..I can tell the story of his name if you'd like. He was tiny then. Very lethargic and drank and peed a lot. We didn't think anything of it but that it was odd. One day while at church we had left him with our mother in law. She called and text and said we needed to come get him and take him to the vet. So as he is just a few months old we discover he is diabetic. Doctors told us he likely would have died had we not sought treatment when we did.

The next few months were a battle trying to get him stable with his sugar and healthy. The Doc's told us he likely would only live a year. He'll be 3 in June. This guy also has seizures. I think from the heat and his diabetes (only happens during the summer. With as bad as they have become this last year I simply wouldn't be surprised if he didn't last but another year or two.

I pretty much will be devastated when my buddy is gone. He has been a great source of joy for my wife and I who, with her health issues, have had a very rough year. That is my dude and I simply love that little guy. God knew we needed him as much as he needed us.

Let's hope you're wrong and the little guy makes it another decade. Great story, too. Did you see the video about the blind golden retriever that had daily seizures until she met a stray that was picked up in the yard one day? They became instant friends and the golden has not had another seizure since then.

Thanks!

I heard about the video but I haven't seen it yet.

Awwe Lucky!!! I was hoping you would post the one of Lucky trapped under the deck, LOL!
Here's Buckets! He's our rescuse- was abused pretty badly as a pup. Used to be scared of everything and everybody, he is still a bit of a scardy cat but a completly different dog than he was four years ago.

I meant to write this, but thanks...I watched this the other day when you posted it. Dogs know man...our other dog is a rescue. She was found in someone's back yard (thrown over the fence). We adopted her and she was skiddish at first. Eventually she opened up. But it is like she knows that nobody wanted her, but we did. She has a unreal loyalty to us. For instance, I went to the game last night and my wife stayed home. Rosie sits at the door and cries until I get home. She knows something is off.

I'll play hit my wife on the leg and she'll yell "ouch" and Rosie will attack me. The whole time she has the look in her eye of "I really really really don't want to be doing this but you are leaving me with no choice!"

Incredibly loyal as if she knew she wasn't wanted except by us. Really neat.
This is Porthos, we rescued him in January.

The shelter told us he was 3, but some of the paperwork says he is 1. We think he's probably about 1 and a half. He was scared of pretty much everything at first, but we've been taking him to some classes and doggy day care once a week to socialize him with other dogs and he's really starting to open up more. He smiles all the time now and is starting to play more. Also, he's trying to learn how to use my laptop.

Man, you're my hero! I love rescue dogs and Porthos looks quite happy. Except when they start barking while I'm on the phone on business...
Great job, yakko.

Well, I'm all for photos and happy endings.

Somehow I don't think your happy ending and my idea of a happy ending are even close to each other...ahahahahahahahha. Can't touch that.

You can't get a happy ending without touching it.

Wow! I finally found a image hosting website that wasn't blocked at work AND figured out how to use it.

This is Maggie.

After our Golden died of cancer in January, I spent several weeks trying to find an adult dog so we didn't have to do the 'puppy thing'. I finally found a gentleman near Birmingham that had to get rid of these two girls. They were outside dogs, and now they are very happy house dogs.
I forgot Jessie.

They're beautiful, and lucky to have you. Jessie, too.

Not capable of doing pics. so the story goes like this. Had to put down our cocker of sixteen years and wife and kids were torn up. Daughter and wife went to shelter and came home with a terrier mix that my wife was hoping to be a lap dog. HA! At 45 pounds he is a little big for anybodys lap but mine. A couple of years later a family friend two doors down passed away and his parents couldn't bear to keep the memory and were going to give Max to the vet. Ole softy here told them I would keep him at my house in case they had a change of heart. Max is a hundred pound lab. One year later the wife hears of a shi-tsu[sp] in Ark. that stays tied to a tree all day. Her friend talks the man into giving him up and NOW she has her lap dog. Married for 29 years, had a total of four dogs and all were rescues.[we were the cockers third home]. Never a dull moment around here.
