Charlotte is back! I wish SLU played football.

ODU is probably a great addition as well.
Great idea. Where we going?
Sounds good. I bet with all of the money we have coming in to the program we can go independent & even have our own tv network.

Let's do it.
OK. I'll play...........................................for a while
Here's your core

03-lmfao that was funny. I thought you said the conference was a joke.
You realize that after the last shakeup this is the same thing we heard out of folks. Well I submit UCF, SMU, and Houston. All three were worse than UAB. Two had winless seasons. All three made commitments and got their act together and all 3 are in the big East.

No sir it's time for UAB to get it's act together and be the next bell cow. Stop bitching and win games. Last round Houston, UCF, and SMU stepped up to the plate and we were fine. Who is next? UAB, Marshall, and Southern Miss? Will it be UTSA? Could they be the next Boise State? North Texas has made a commitment with football and Basketball will it be them. Stop all this Bull spit and win games.
Something I wrote a while back but it illistrates how bad Houston SMU, and UCF was. As I illistrate this league will be just fine. It will be interesting to see who steps up to the plate.

Why UAB Needs a Stadium

Let’s take a look at 3 other schools to compare. I will call them school A, B, & C and will use actual facts (what a novel concept) that can easily be looked up by anyone.

School A
In 2001 School A played in a top 10 media market surrounded by multiple national football powers.
They played their games in a decaying stadium that is no longer in use today.
In 2001 school A went 0-11.
2001 average attendance was 20,646 which was boosted by a home game against a Top 10 National power that provided ¾ of the crowd. Their final conference game that year drew a paid attendance of 11,647.

School B
In 2004 School B played in a top 20 media market surrounded by multiple national football Powers.
They played their games in a decaying stadium that at one time was in worse shape than Legion Field.
In 2004 they went 0-11 continuing a 17 game losing streak.
2004 average attendance was 19,592. The average for conference games that year was about 16,000 with a low of around 12,000.

School C
School C played in a top 10 media market surrounded by multiple national football powers.
School C shares the City with a pro football team and a few years removed from a national scandal went 0-12.
In 2007 school C went 1-11. It was in the middle of a stretch where it went 1-21 with the one win over a FCS team.
In 2007 its average attendance was 17,117 with a low of 10,271.
It also played a home game in front of an announced crowd of 8,000 on ESPN on a Friday night in a decrepit decaying stadium before it moved venues. Its original home stadium has since been imploded.

What happened to these three schools?

All 3 had poor attendance comparable to UAB
All 3 were running a subsidy and still do today. Two of the three today are running more of a subsidy than UAB.
All 3 had much, much worse on the field performances than UAB.

School A moved into a 32,000 seat on campus stadium.
School B moved into a brand new state of the art 45,301 seat on campus stadium.
School C moved into a brand new state of the art 32,000 seat on campus stadium.

I wonder what the discussions were about those three schools. Were they asked to justify their existence?

All 3 schools are in Conference USA and share the same challenges and problems as UAB

They are:
School A – Houston
School B – Central Florida
School C – SMU

All 3 schools have been in the top 25 since and will be soon accepting membership in the Big East soon. ESPN Gameday was just recently at Houston.

I wonder if anyone will ask their athletic directors what made the difference for those three schools when they are making their BCS league announcement. I would bet they would say they had leadership and support from the top.

UAB is being held to a standard no other program in the country must face. UAB has missed out on many opportunities (including inclusion into a more profitable conference) to improve its program due to the lack of leadership and short sightedness of its own supposed Board of Trustees. One might even come to the conclusion that the Board's actions over the years have "knee capped" UAB.
The UA Board of Trustees does not share the same vision for UAB that its players, fans, alumni, and boosters share. Their vision is more of “go play in your litter box and don’t bother anyone.”

The 3 schools I have mentioned shows what can happen to a school with very similar problems and challenges that has proper support and leadership from the top.

Don’t believe me? Just ask all three Athletic Directors at the press conference when they join the Big East.
Without an OCS, UAB will continue to be surpassed by other schools. Legion Field is our albatross.

We don't have any support from the top - zero.
Legion Field is not losing games or stopping fans from attending. It is an excuse that needs to go away. How else do you explain other crowds out there?

I want an OCS as much as anyone here and still say it will happen sooner than you think but UAB fans have got to stop this bitching and moaning and making excuses. man up win games and support the program. There is absolutely no reason UAB cannot win C-USA playing at Legion Field. Yea, I know what I wrote and the OCS is what we need for the long term. Right now we need butts in the seats and to win games to help make sure the OCS happens.
I would rather stand up and fight for it instead of sitting in a corner with a thumb in my mouth & a finger up my butt.
The potential upside of UAB in an all-sport environment is limited only by its infrastructure resources and its backing from the UA System and its fanbase. Winning teams cover a lot of questionable bases of fan support regardless of stadium though I would like to see a "seriously large" OCS that says plainly that UAB is a "serious competitor" for any possible move in any future conference realignment. IMHO 27,000 does NOT project that attitude.
Go watch some UTSA video.
Things are so bad right now, that if the conference did split apart, USM, Marshall and ECU would rather be in a conference without UAB. UAB football just hasn't been competitive enough to warrant inclusion.
Actually quite the opposite unless our AD is lying to us. The league is not splitting apart either. Step away from the ledge folks.

Too late for me. I've already jumped. Dang!
Well, I plan to enjoy some football and hopefully our Blazers will be at the top of C-USA very soon. I am not going anywhere.
