Looks like Utah State and San Jose State are on the verge of joining the Mountain West. Texas State has been mentioned as a logical expansion target for the SBC, and as WAC football seems to be headed for extinction, I would think Texas State would be eager for an invite from the SBC. Also, Texas-Arlington, which like us does not sponsor football, would also be a great addition to our league.

Utsa, la tech, nt, fiu to cusa which all but kills the wac.
There was almost certain to be at least one casualty conference as a result of the realignment.

With LA Tech likely in CUSA, it means the Sun Belt candidates will be Charlotte and Texas State. Others such as Appalachian St., Georgia Southern and ODU have yet to fully commit to upgrading to FBS football. Once the Sun Belt loses 2 schools, they will be back at 9 members with Georgia State. Charlotte might be the pick here. But the conference might also opt for another FCS upgrade along with Texas St. for a 12 school football conference. Even another lonely WAC member could slip in along with Charlotte and Texas St.

I seriously doubt that Charlotte would consider the SBC for anything other than football only, and I doubt that the SBC would be very interested in that. If Texas State and UTA were added, that would take us back to a 12 team league with 10 for football once Ga State, Texas St., and USA got all the way up to speed on Divsion I football.
The BCS leagues picked up enough schools that really do not belong at that level that it depleted the stock of schools for the lower conferences.

This article states Texas State to the Belt as a fact. Is that so?
I read where UT Arlington would join to complement us since they don't have football like us. They just opened a nice basketball facility and housing complex on campus.

Like Michaelspappy, I have been reading stuff on the internet that seems to state that the addition of Texas State to the SBC is a done deal. Now I'm reading the same kind of stuff concerning UT-Arlington.

However, I have yet to see anything that could possibly be termed official in this regard. Replacing non football playing Denver with non football playing UTA would be a great move for the conference and for us.
Poor Denver. It finally finds a place to go, and that place disappears.

Looks to me that the Sun Belt is coming out of this looking pretty good. We are tightening our geographical footprint (only FAU is a real outlier) and we are not losing much, if anything, competitively; UNT/FIU/Denver replaced by GaState/UTA/TexasSt. I've read that Texas State is a huge school with tons of potential. GaState is growing and in Atlanta. UTA, with its location, is a pretty even swap for UNT in basketball.

They have had some good teams at times. 24-9 last season, and 21-12 in 07-08.
One of the WACs problems is that, unless they want to joint the coast-to-coast crowd, there just are not that many football schools in the western half of the country to choose from.
The bad thing about Texas St. is that they apologized to their fans for having to move to the SBC. They are the new La Tech of the SBC…

Oh Jeez. And here I was glad that La Tech was going to the CUSA so we didn't have to listen to that kind of crap.

I don't feel badly toward them for that. The WAC is a higher-rated conference in most sports. I am sure they are disappointed it did not work out.
