in 2009 Witherspoon had a ton of seniors and no point guards in the pipe.. He asked Mulkey to sit the year so that Mulkey could come back in 2010 (Byron never used a red shirt).. The next season he was one of only two seniors on the team and the only starter..

Mulkey was scholarship by 2008, I don't know if he had it before then or not.
