Here is Larry Brown, former NBA coach, bring a NBA mentality to the collegiate ranks... The old 'waiver wire' published in your daily paper.

P.S. No signing bonuses, Larry, please. I believe SMU got the FB death penalty for that. 05-stirthepot

Quote:"During each meeting, there was honest, straight-forward discussion about the future of the program," Orsini said. "No player was told his scholarship would not be renewed."

Orsini said each of the former players could remain at SMU as a student on scholarship.

If they decide to transfer to play somewhere else, Orsini said Brown and his staff would help them find another school.

"These are decisions that will be made by the individual student-athletes, though, and not the athletic department," the AD said.

I don't know, he is not removing them from scholarship, just letting them know that he does not intend to play them. The individual students are free to continue their free education at SMU, or he will help them expedite the transfer process if they find somewhere else to play.

Seems pretty straight-up to me. He is a coach inheriting a program, and is laying his cards on the table. There have been far more underhanded ways situations like this have been handled.
