Still looking at Notre Dame. It appears the BE is out of the question now. It is either the BIG TEN or ACC.
Only way PAC12 is expanding is with Texas and Oklahoma
How did the OP come to the conclusion that Hawaii and BYU would get invites? He might as well had added New Mexico State.
BYU and Notre Dame aren't going to be forced into a conference. PERIOD.

^ This.

In fact, after them telling OU and OSU "thanks but no thanks" it's even more accurate to say they are ONLY expanding for Texas but will negotiate on tag-alongs.

Then what is their path to the National Title game?

Get ranked in the top 4. That's everyone path now.

We won't know until we know what the 4 team playoff set up is.

Do a little research before you post nonsense.

Notre Dame will have to be undefeated to get into the top 4 now. That will not happen.
Um...you pretty much have to either be undefeated or at worst one loss to be in the Top4 most years no matter who you are.

Nonsense. Wow. You reply was unnecessary. Your opinion is noted.

Then the question becomes who decides who gets in if you have 6 conference champions with one loss plus a one loss ND team.

When was the last time that ND was ranked in the top 4 at the end of the season?

ND's path to the national title will be the same as everybody else's. Win enough games to be in the top-4 at season's end. Their schedule matches up with anybody's out there. If people want to complain about ND getting special treatment, and needing to join a conference to legitimize their treatment, then there is a very easy remedy for this. Stop scheduling them. Until then, nobody has any viable argument as to why them or BYU or anyone else should join a conference, other than it being convenient to them or their own conference. Not flaming here, but this has been beaten to death 05-deadhorse
Wow. I can tell you're a Sunbelt fan.

Easy. Look at the SOS's. ND on name alone can earn the nod against any team from just about any conference with similar credentials. Brand is not an issue here. So with all that being equal, if Oregon's one loss is to Washington, while ND's one loss is to Oklahoma, i'm pretty confident in figuring that ND would get that "popularity push" in the polls above an Oregon. You, I, and the rest of the nation know this.

ND does not have the popularity that it had twenty or ten years ago.

"Going forward it looks like this for Notre Dame/Group of Five: Finish in the top four or take your chances. Is that enough to force ND into a conference? Not likely unless the commissioners decide to take conference champions only for the playoff. That's not likely either."

Most of the PAC-12 already made it clear that BYU will NEVER get invited. Hawaii has a better shot. The problem with the PAC-12 is they can't expand anywhere unless they want Boise and their below average academics, or UNLV, and New Mexico to help that pitiful basketball of theirs. I suppose they could grab a SDSU and Fresno if they needed some teams to keep up but I don't see the California schools liking that idea.

Yup - BYU will NEVER get a Pac-12 invite.
We should somehow convince the State of Idaho to merge with the State of Nevada, consolidate their universities, and put them in Las Vegas. Boise State's football program, the cherry-picked academic departments out of all schools not named Boise, and the population of Las Vegas. That hypothetical school might have a chance at Pac-12 admission.
Larry scott is innovative, so hawaii as a sell of the pac 10 to asia might catch his interest. BYU seems toxic to the pac 10 though but the pair of byu + hawaii as a football only combo would be more realistic and not really a bad move. However, i don't see the pac 10 jumping to 14 without texas for awhile.
