Mike Price says we re going to the Mountain West to play old Wac rivals Colorado State Wyoming and New Mexico.

"We re going back to where we use to be in the Wac"

Sounds like UTEP is a lock. Utah State fans seem confident that they will be team number 10. It makes sense for each side to stay at 10 If they want a cross conference Championship game.
Then CUSA really is going to expand. They already had issues with women's swimming, but now they'd be down to 7 teams with UTEP leaving.

What's funny is that UTEP reportedly put in a bid to host the CUSA basketball tournament along with UCF and Memphis - and the presidents didn't want to give it to a school that was leaving. Now all 3 are leaving.
UTEP has potential - the MWC is a much better fit for them in most ways, especially since SMU and Houston are leaving C-USA.
Travell in C-USA was insane for UTEP
For Conference USA, LA Tech makes more sense than UTEP does anyway. This isn't a huge blow...
C-USA has Tulane in Louisiana. They may not invite La. Tech but may go after Florida schools FIU, and Fla Atlantic. La Tech's choice may be to go to the Sun Belt to fill one of the spots vacated by FIU & Fla Atlantic.

And honestly, Tulane has all of about 37 people in the state of Louisiana who still care.

Louisiana Tech is really about as sensible as any of the other choices...not that any of it matters.
Louisiana Tech would be a waste of a spot for CUSA, especially if they only go to 10 now, and 12 later. The smart move would be to grab FAU, FIU, and North Texas now. Doing that shores up travel for basketball and minor sports while reinforcing the league's presence in the two most important recruiting states. Those three schools are also located in markets that the Big East will not have any interest in raiding since USF, UCF, and SMU already have those areas covered.

At that point, CUSA should keep an eye on big market schools that can shore up the remaining holes in their footprint, like Georgia State and Texas State (assuming that UTSA goes to the MWC with UTEP). I see UNC Charlotte as being useless to CUSA because Georgia State can serve the same purpose but is located in a different state and bigger market. Texas State would help make the San Antonio Area the center of what I assume will eventually be a full Alliance/Merger.

That might be true but at present Tulane is a member of C-USA. C-USA will more then likely want to have a presence in Florida which might hurt La. Tech's chances of getting an invite (depending on how many new members are added).
I just can't understand why there hasn't been any interest in mtsu. Bowl game win, recent basketball improvements, access to a potential market in Nashville....am I missing something?

I agree with this. MTSU is the largest school in Tennessee I believe. Their football team had a 10 win season a year ago and their basketball team is good also.

Univ of Tennessee still has the largest enrollment in the state...while MTSU is about 1,000 students above Memphis' enrollment.

MTSU might have the largest undergraduate enrollment and both Univ of Tennessee and Univ of Memphis have much larger numbers of grad students at their schools.
The University of Tennessee still has the largest undergrad enrollment, KL. Every time I go down on the campus, I'm amazed. It's almost twice the size it was just 20 years ago, and the construction continues...

List I was going off showed this for undergraduate enrollment:

Univ of Tenn: 21,308
MTSU: 22,274
UTK had nearly 30K undergrad enrollment last semester, according to the Registrar's Office...

Spot on Jass... C-USA should bring in MTSU yesterday.
As an aside... How bad of a fall has it been for Mike Price? Going from arguably the best coach in the game (anyone who could get Washington State to a Rose Bowl earns consideration) to someone bragging about going to the depleted Mountain West.
It looks like CUSA is going to have a heavy Texas presence, and then spread across the Gulf Coast to Florida, so they have no need for inland schools like MTSU.

East Carolina and Marshall will continue to be tolerated, but if they ever quit, I can already foresee CUSA replacing them with Georgia State and Florida Atlantic.
