This is an excellent interview.
...Spring Game/Depth Chart: don't call 'em 1s and 2s ; spoke to Mack brown and was convinced that calling players 1s and 2s diminishes the player's value to the team(green team-regular contributors, white team-backups, gold team-developmentals)

...adjustments to being HC: not as involved as before
...really likes asst coaches
...2 experienced guys(OC & DC), and a bunch of young hungry aggressive guys who recruit
...Defense concerns: DC Johnson a top coach; aggressive kids;
...Reception and HS FB talent level in AL: AL HS a top FB state in country; really good coaches; can win w/Al players

What FBHCGM is going to run into is that many of the best suburban players (the so called "impact players") have strong cultural bias in favor of Bama and/or AU while many of the other district's athletes won't consistently be able to clear UAB's present academic hurdles. 70% to over 80% of the state's 133 school districts are being financially starved into athletic mediocrity so that those schools who can are having to recruit a majority of their "impact players" from other states. UAB is no exception.

I would think that the inner-city schools, rather than suburban schools, would be less likely to produce players that can qualify.

Inner city and rural school districts are the 70% to 80% to which I refer. Can you list the present UAB QBs who are from instate public high schools? How many of our top RBs are from those two types of instate school districts? How many of our "starting 22"?

Our last coach didn't recruit locally, I thought we established that years ago.
