I hate to see a young kid(s) throw away an opportunity like a fully paid college education at any school. My daughter and her husband recently opened a savings plan for my granddaughter and even with 18 years of funding the plan, including contributions from extended family, I suspect she will need to borrow some money when the time comes.

Four years at NIU will cost you around 100,000. Where does a kid come up with that kind of money? 30 years ago, you worked your butt off during school and summer and paid for school. No way today. We can only guess what college will cost in 18 years.

This is very depressing...If the cost of education increases at its current rate then it will cost my 3 kids around $765,000 to attend a school like NIU for 4 years. That would mean to pay for my kid’s college that starting today I would need to put away $40,000 per year for 14 years and another $27,000 for 2 more years just to hope that the earnings do well to meet the projections.

Don't worry. No need to send your kids to college. THat is only for the uber wealthy not poor schmucks like the middle class and poor. THat is what Mittens and Sanitarium keep saying. 05-stirthepot

The cost of college is already coming down at a lot of schools. It's inevitable that there will be a college "bubble" just like the housing bubble. The costs are unsustainable.

That's good news.
