I get that we are out of it for any of the big time recruits. So who should I be watching to see if he signs with the Tigers?

Nobody knows, all I've got is the names we've been linked to as far as "reported" interest and "reported" scholarship offers.

Names to keep an eye on:

Darrick Wood - Shooting Guard
Torian Graham - Shooting Guard
Jerron Wilbut - Shooting Guard
Andre Applewhite II - Shooting Guard
Tevin Glass - Power Forward
Bradley Hayes - Center

I might be missing a few other names.

Outside of Torian Graham none of those guys are very good and we should wait until 2013 and load up there. 2013 is deep and especially locally lots of great talent around. Besides unless Drew goes back to being a walk-on or Hipp or Stan are transferring we have no schollies. 2013 Nick King, Jujuan Johnson, Juwan Parker, JW3, Austin Nichols, Jordan Woodard, Robert Hubbs and many more.
Did a quick search on these names. No new info. One article said that Tevin Glass was taking the ACT this Saturday and would not send in papers until he got his score.

If we dont sign someone in 2012 using Drew's scholly then we would have 6 scholarships to use in 2013 with Stan, DJ, Ferro, Adonis, Shaq(will count towards FB scholarship when he begins playing for Coach Fuente) & the holdover of Drew's scholly.

As I mentioned in your other thread 2013 will be a 4-7 man class.

You don't want to load up with too many freshmen in 2013, which is why adding another player in 2012 will help balance things out. Drew can walk-on, again.

I like the kid, wouldn't mind Pastner snatching 3 recruits from Georgia in the same year. Another one of those developmental guys we've been linked to. Bring him in behind expected contributors and let him put on weight and work on his game.

Quote:“College coaches love his energy and his high motor,” Milton coach David Boyd told the AJC. “He’s very active and runs the floor well. He’s a terrific rebounder and shot blocker.”

Looks like the stuff said about Dozier. Just needs to throw on the headband to look cool.
I think Graham (obviously), Wood, Hayes, Wilbut and Glass would all be worthwhile pick-ups. I think we need to admit that we're not Memphis circa 2008 anymore. . .there's no shame in signing guys ranked just outside the top 100 or even top 150 who offer intangibles such as toughness, rebounding, shot blocking, etc., for future development. Too often players are disparaged on this board for not being "Memphis good" who go on and have solid careers elsewhere. At some point we need to realize we're not a blueblood school and can't cherry pick the very best players in the nation.
Aren't we still in with rivals #63 recruit Anthony January?

But, I thought TC has been saying all along that we're in good and the staff is all over January????

The kid is probably concerned about playing time here.

True. But that was optimism more than anything.

I mean I dont think anybody really believed Jarnell, Poythress, Parker, & Shaq would all come here together. It would've been great to see but its just not realistic for players of their talent level when we aren't running a 1 & Done factory. To me, its a great sign for our program that we can get big name recruits like that on visits or Midnight Madness.

Loading up in 2013 seems way more realistic when you're going to be selling these guys on coming in as freshmen in the same year that we go to the Big East. Better competition + National TV coverage = More exposure. Not to mention you'll have maybe 5 or 6 guys coming in as freshmen in a year where Joe Jackson, Geron Johnson, Antonio Barton, Tarik Black, Chris Crawford returning as Seniors. Typically thats how the Elite programs like Duke, UNC, Kansas, etc build their teams. Take a backseat as a Freshmen on a veteran team but step into a bigger role in the following season.

WTF?

We just signed a stellar class.

What is wrong with our fans? If you people expect a top 10 class every year you need to get real.

You're right. This is a Top 20 class.

Can't get every top player who considers Memphis just because.
I don't think anyone is gonna complain about a top 20 class. Well they shouldn't because realistically we didn't need but a couple of players and we filled all of our holes.

Geron- Comes in as a scoring replacement for Will Barton. ( Might not get 18 per game but this kid is perfectly capable of averaging 12-14 depending on his minutes. Like I said if he keeps a low profile and does the right things I'm allf or him being here and helping us win.

Shaq- Fills a much needed hole on the inside. We actually have some quality depth outside of Ferro and Black. If Simpson improves to the level of a 8 and 6 guy we will have the bext frontcourt in the country.

Damien-Best defensive g/wing on a 40-0 Oak Hill team imo and can score when needed. He still has plenty to learn but as far as his drive and energy the kid is amazing. He will come in and alot of you will be pleasently surprised.

Next season we will have another top 1-5 class. We're not Kentucky we don't need the #1 class year in and year out because we lose 5 one and dones to the NBA draft. But a top 20 class every 2 years to fill holes and a top 1-5 that third season to get a good core back, seems perfect to me.
personally, the Hayes kid would be a good fit here...Huge kid with tons athleticism...Legit 6-11 who can run the floor and play in the paint...Some who have seem him say he is vastly underrated

Couldn't agree more. Even if he is a project, this program needs more 6-10+ guys to try to develop. They don't grow on trees.

my sentiments exactly, 6-8" centers get old after a while, unless you get Charles Barkley , Jr.
