Quote:Elizabeth Bierenday, a junior at Pilgrim High School in Warwick, was asked to create a mural for the school.

She sketched a mural that showed the growth of a boy into adulthood. The last image showed a man with a woman and child and wedding rings over their heads.

Bierenday showed the school's assistant principal the sketches, which were approved.

...

On Friday, Bierenday spoke with John DePetro on WPRO-AM about the mural and said she was told that her original design may be offensive or a religious symbol.
Lets rid the country of anything moral or positive just so we don't piss off anybody. When did other peoples feeling become more important than one's own beliefs? Especially in a case like this? Marriage offensive? Wedding rings taboo? Are we all going to have to cut off our ring fingers to appease a few ********?
So remove the wedding rights... it still gets the message across. A mom and a dad is needed to raise kids.

Isn't it you fundamentalist Christians that are whining about marriage being a religous instuitution? So when they say it is a religous symbol you complain?

Put a fork in the US when it's offensive to show the basic family unit that has been in existence for millennia.

Before you can put a fork in the US, you might have to take it out first.

I think the fork has been stuck in us for a while.

Because they can't procreate their own.

Which of them did the egg come from? And if either of them ever does a paternity test, the baby only came from one of them. Combining their sperm may make them feel as though the child is a part of both of them, but it's not.

Focusing back on the topic: Putting aside your banter with your conservative-leaning opponents for a moment, who do you agree with in the article? Do you think the mural should be covered because (from the article) "some people at the school felt the mural didn't accurately represent many students at Pilgrim and school officials decided to paint over the right side"?

Personally, I believe this is simply Example #1,265,205 of hypersensitive political correctness run amok. I should also add that if another sketch was created on a wall featuring a gay student, or a single mom, or a couple "shacking up" (sans wedding rings), I'd be fine with that remaining on the wall as well.

On a side note... one of the sketches shows a boy with a guitar. Most aren't musically-inclined and can't play an instrument. Therefore, it doesn't 'accurately represent many students at the high school' and should be censored painted over.

Ok... let me rephraise. I honestly don't have a problem with a gay couple who is in a stable relationship raising kids. God knows we have too many unstable parents with kids.

The girl should just say the couple was really a man and a pre-op transgendered man who got married in a gay friendly state.... Done!

Quote:Some people at the school felt the mural didn't accurately represent many students at Pilgrim and school officials decided to paint over the right side.

If they want to take that route, then we could say black/hispanic/women's studies don't accurately represent many students at any other god damned school.

Where is the tolerance that I'm always told I need to have?
why have the mural at all...it's not needed...i would have painted over it too.
Because your intolerant.
