Chicago Sun-Times: Bobby Petrino on leave at Arkansas after crash, coverup

Quote:FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Bobby Petrino has improved every step of the way at Arkansas — not just his team’s performance but his image.

The coach’s revelation Thursday of an inappropriate relationship and his attempt to cover it up now threatens to derail all the progress Petrino has made in four seasons.

Chicago Tribune: Petrino placed on paid administrative leave by Arkansas

Quote:Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino has been placed on paid administrative leave by athletic director Jeff Long, who said he made the decision to give himself time to review Petrino's recent actions.

Petrino issued a statement and apologized to his family and the university, admitting to having a "previous inappropriate relationship" after it was learned he had a female passenger with him when his motorcycle crashed Sunday.
She is some eye candy. She seemed "very close" to him in those 8 days she worked for him

I said a long time ago, if I were a parent of a player recruited by Arkansas, I would say hell no to their football program. This guy a lower than Pitino and Calipari combined.
Our pals at Arkansas St are sweating right now over the idea of Gus Malzahn jumping.
I never liked him for what he did when he quit on the Atlanta Falcons the way he did. I am not a Falcons fan either. To me this is karma. JMO.
He lied to the police and the Administration multiple times and should be fired already.

Their AD doesn't mind since he put in that 2mil buyout clause.

To say nothing of the abuse of his position by either getting his girlfriend a job in his office or starting an affair with a subordinate. That's eminently firable stuff right there.

Looking at that picture HnP posted, I don't think it's an accident he wore his Sugar Bowl cap for the press conference. Getting that game was the high point in his Arkansas tenure, wearing that was a convenient visual reminder to people, from him, of what he's done as coach there.

That's exactly why Petrino will keep his job. Big donors at Arkansas are already threatening the AD if Petrino isn't retained. He'll probably have to endure some financial penalties and "training."

In the end, money talks, and Petrino has brought success and dollars to Arkansas.

Wonder how wearing the Sugar Bowl cap around the house works with Mrs. P? 01-lauramac2
Will Jessica do the "training?" He was certainly thinking with the wrong head but what was her deal? He be ugly---she be golddigger?
Interesting bio of Bobby Petrino on Deadspin.com, entitled: "Amateur Motorcyclist, World Class Adulterer And A**hole: Bobby Petrino’s Greatest Hits" Shows what a sleazeball Petrino really is.

Joe Schad of ESPN is reporting Petrino has been fired.
Here is the link following what UI just said.

Wow, he was terminated with cause. Arkansas won't have to pay him a dime (unless he sues them for it).
Illini should have waited a few more months before picking the next football coach.
Wow. Gotta give props to Jeff Long for this decision. Interesting comments on Hogville.net, the main Arkansas board. Lot of fans calling for Long's head, but a lot also realize he made the right call.

I bet he will get passed up on some jobs in the next college offseason because of his past.
This guys next stop is HS or widget league. DIVIII if he is lucky.

Any AD in DIVI should be fired immediately. If I were an alumnus, donor or parent, I wouldn't stand for his hire it no matter what school or level it is. He is and always has been a *******, liar and now throw in disgrace to his family.Cheating is one thing, breaking NCAA rules. Those people like Calipari and Tressel always will resurface with the "image" they give off. This guy? He has no respect for anyone. He leaves programs and embarrasses himself and programs, lies about police activity and an event involving himself AND another school employee he hire and has a personal relationship with. How anyone would want to be associated with him is beyond me.
Not this **** again!

10 Coaches to Replace Bobby Petrino If He's Fired

Quote:The future of Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino is uncertain. Although Petrino sports an impressive 34-17 record in four seasons with the Razorbacks, he could be in danger of losing his job, after lying to athletic director Jeff Long about the details of his motorcycle wreck last week. Petrino did not inform Long that Jessica Dorrell – an Arkansas athletic department employee – was riding with him, despite indicating so in the police report.

Taver Johnson has been selected as Arkansas’ interim coach, but what if Bobby Petrino is fired? The Razorbacks likely won’t hire a full-time head coach until the end of the 2012 season, but it’s always interesting to ponder the possibilities.

If Bobby Petrino is fired, here are 10 coaching candidates Arkansas could target at the end of the 2012 season –

Dave Doeren, head coach, Northern Illinois – Doeren did a nice job with Northern Illinois in his first season, leading the Huskies to the 2011 MAC Championship with an impressive 11-3 record. Doeren has made stops as an assistant at Montana, Kansas and Wisconsin and so far, has been a good hire for Northern Illinois. With just one year of head coaching experience, Doeren may be too green for the Arkansas position if it comes available at the end of the 2012 season.
