Does this mean ESPN will do what it can to kill CAA football...Welcome JMU.

IF CAA takes a beating, both hoops and FB, it could be welcome JMU, etc.
Bracket buster was always a farce. If they wanted a true bracket buster, they would have scheduled a mid-level major conference team AT a mid-major having a good year.
Goodbye Budget Buster
The setup itself is a bad idea and mid-majors fell over each other to be one of the half-dozen televised games out of 30. The bubble is usually a dozen major conference teams and 3-4 mid-major types, meaning if you wanted to actually accomplish something, teams like Northwestern and NC State needed to be playing mid-majors and each other.

This would seem to be it.

No CAA does weaken the appeal of Brackbusters but hardly kills it.

Defintely weakens appeal but probably opens up more games for MAC teams to be televised. WCC, MVC and others still on board so still plenty of matchups for top teams left to be arranged. CAA has had some big wins on the Buster, could loom large for at large bids in upcoming seasons. Puts more pressure on the top CAA teams to line up and win more quality OOC games since there will be one less opportunity late in the year to pad the resume.

With all the minor conference shuffling in the mid-major ranks and news like this, you can't help but think it is slowly putting the MAC into a stronger position relative to other mid-majors. If enough things shake out right, there could be some quality programs on the outside looking to move to MAC.
Agree w. Huskie, and the MAC should be stronger next year so maybe we grab another television slot.

Sometimes someone else misfortune is your good fortune.
Maybe the MAC should say "no thanks" to ESPN and their Bracket Busters and call up the CAA and start up the MAC vs. CAA Challenge.

Given our TV deal with ESPN that might not want to be a road you take....

But.... There is no reason not to do both!

Three days after the bracket buster have the CAA / MAC challenge. Same situation it allows you to get quality games late in the season for top teams and sets up a return the next year.
- You want to spurn ESPN? They've shown they'll poke you in the eye out of spite. Don't tick off the masters.
- Only two WCC teams participated last year.

I don't think doing both would 'spurn' ESPN too much.. Heck if you want to make it less offensive do it earlier in the year..

I agree with you so long as we feed at ESPN's table best not to spit up the food..

After getting a contract w/ CBS, I doubt CAA is too worried.

ESPN is taking it hard w/ Fox Sport Channel, BTN (and coming clones) and NBC Sports Channel.

They just aren't that important anymore.

CBS or NBC?

My question:

Will the MAC get more appearances going forward as more and more games move to new networks?

I doubt it. They have SEC games to show and they can use the 360 as an excuse to not put MAC games up.

ESPN owns the crappy bowl games that are speculated to be the casualties of the 7-win rule change.
