Dambrot turned down a job offer from Duquesne. It would have paid $650k a year with incentives up to $800k. He was their top choice.
Yeah it's the A-10 and Dambrot has some connections there, but 650k isn't nearly enough to take over a mess like that.
Made the right decision. Duquesne is a total mess right now.
Only one way to go and that's up.
Is “people who talk to people” and cite on Twitter really acceptable as a news source?
Google "Keith dambrot duquesne". It seems like there is some truth to this rumor. Or maybe not, hard to tell.
Either way, he is still at Akron. If he really did turn down th job, I would expect to see more articles posted within 24 hours. Right now, it's just Twitter talk and message board fodder. Akron's beat reporter should be looking into the matter. If he isn't, they need to get a new beat reporter.
I am still baffled that dambrot is still at Akron. I know the perceived reason is from his departure at cmu, but that was a long time ago. It seems SOMEBODY would be calling by now that could offer him close to a million per year. Or, maybe he appreciates what he has now and realizes how quick it can be taken away from someone after the CMU mishap. Is he aiming to be Charlie Coles? Life long MAC coach content with 400k per yr and periodical raises?

I'm going to treat this as fiction until I see a real article online.

Our beat reporter looked into it. Dambrot was contacted and he shot them down. He has no desire to leave Akron.
Every year, one or two schools quietly contact him about a job and he always says no. The reason this time is being reported and making some noise is that Duquesne fans wouldn't shut up over the past two weeks about how much they wanted him.
Also, the guy whose tweets I linked to at the top isn't just some random guy. He's the radio host for the Pittsburgh sports radio station and generally has good info.
Ok, so they asked if he was interested, he said NO...and added he had no intentions of leaving Akron.
Now the question is, why exactly does he have no intentions of leaving Akron?

Because it's home.
Very good reason, but since he was offered 650k plus incentives, it would be prudent to reveiw his contract.

First Ohio and now you start in on another top MAC basketball school with Akron.
Can't you realize that 400k is pretty good money? That is about 3 times what SDSU and Lamar pay and their both in the NCAA tournament.
I'm sure Dambrot is another NCAA tournament appearance away from hitting the 600k-700k level with a new contract. Ohio is already there with Jim Christian.
Coles BTW, was senile and making 200,000 one of the lowest salaries in the MAC. Miami has given up on men's basketball dumping all of its resources into Hockey. They aren't willing to recruit the JUCO's and take the chances on academically marginal players like the serious MAC basketball schools are willing to do.

Man, that's nearly Ohio money!

See, it has nothing to do with Ohio, Groce, Akron, or Dambrot. I respect both universities, and really respect the two coaches.
It's more about your outright lies that I refuse to ignore.

Ummm.....its called differences in opinion and interpretation.
Please, Western Michigan fan take your basketball and go home.
Sorry, I refuse to take orders from a fan who roots for the fifth best football team in the MAC.
(and chooses to lie about everything regarding Ohio)

Charlie Coles is not senile, the rest of your statement is correct. You are not old enough to have senility as an excuse for some of the things you write. Charlie probably never even looked at his check or knew what he was making. His wife took care of those details. Charlie was a workaholic, working mostly 16 hour days during the season, a habitual tape watcher. As long as he had the chance to plot and strategize and work with young men he was happy and fulfilled.

How is Ohio the 5th best football team in the MAC when we were one of the 4 schools that one a bowl game (Ohio, Toledo, Temple, NIU).
Western Michigan? They've never won a bowl. I can't see how the Bobcats are behind WMU as a football program if that is what you are suggesting here.
