Quote:1.) The throwing and catching has gotten better, but it still isn't good. Period. It has been erratic at times, it has been inconsistent and while the there have been some good things that have happened in 7 v 7 drills, when the team has gone 11 v 11 it has been ugly at times. I do think it has improved so that is a good thing but from my observations there have been far too many interceptions thrown, far too many bad passes and far too many dropped passes by receivers to feel good about the passing game. Again, it has gotten better so you figure with more reps and practices and as the unit gets comfortable playing this offense it will continue to improve. But this area has a long, long way to go to get to a point where it is competent enough to make people opponents about it.

2.) The quarterback competition has been tough to follow because neither Mark Myers or Tino Sunseri has really distinguished himself in such away that there is no contest. I thought by now we would see this happen but it has not. Both have shown flashes but Myers inexperience is easy to see as his decision making is not where it is supposed to be and Sunseri's physical limitations have been well documented over the past two years and they aren't going to change. I do think this offense will protect the quarterbacks much better than the last offense - which exposed them - so if either player can develop consistency they should be able to have some success. Trey Anderson is way behind, not surprisingly, and that's mostly because he's not a great fit for this system. I would think the Anthony Gonzalez experiment will be coming to an end any day now as he is getting no work at all at quarterback and he is clearly too good of an athlete to have sitting on the sidelines at a position he will never see the field.
Looking like the offense is getting better according to Zeise's latest blog.

What are the chances this board becomes a viable alternative to THE TOS? That thing has become unreadable.

My own read on things is that the O will be more productive than what conventional wisdom says. I'm actually a bit concerned about the D. They are too thin and we must replace 5 of the front 7.

Anywho, I responded to your invite and will try and follow.

My biggest problem w/ the D is that the depth on the line behind the starters is thin. I think the starting DL will be the strength of the entire team. Unsure what's going to happen to Fleming, due to his arrest. But if he's gone, that really hurts our LB depth. If we can stay injury free in the front 7 I think we'll be fine. I'm really concerned w/ the QB position if Myers can't at least push for the job. And I'm not as hopeful as others when it pertains to Voytik this fall. I think we have talent on the outside, problem is that we need to get them the ball in space.

Thanks you for responding to the invite. I'm unsure how viable this will be to TOS's. I've been trying to promote this board on facebook and twitter. I know ndlutz, miko, shannon panther, and ej6687 post here on an fairly regular basis, and guys like Paco and 7thfeilder stop by every once in a while. Feel free to send some invites to some guys that you enjoy that likes to stay away from the rift raft.

Welcome. The other Pitt sites are atrocious. Hopefully this site catches on for people who want to talk about our university and athletic programs. The other sites are just full of off topic nonsense and personal vendettas. Obviously, as our numbers grow here the conversation gets more interesting. We're trying to grow while keeping the membership to those who seem decent on TOS.

I'd hope the offense gets better. Is there anywhere else for it to go? Seriously, though, we won't be as QB driven this year so I think that's going to be a help. Unfortunately, I don't know if we even have anyone good enough to be a role player there.

On defense, I don't have much to speak about. I'm concerned with our dwindling numbers at LB. We added Mason but I assume we're losing Fleming and I read that Price is out for the spring. That's not good.

I will try and check in from time to time. When August gets here, we can give it a try, and for the season also. Seriously, that scout board is unreadable. I feel sorry for the people that run it.

I'm not going to make any predictions but, from what people who have been at camp have relayed, these coaches have a handle on just what they want to get out of the QB position. I wouldn't get too attached to the idea of Myers and wouldn't necessarily consider it a loss.

With the schedule, I'm optimistic they (Chryst) can get out of the season what they need. It's a long way to September.
Where Scout went wrong was by getting rid of their OT board. I also think we all can have heated discussions w/out calling each other idiots/pissants etc. Not everyone is going to agree on everything regarding the all teams, hence the point of a message board.

I'm trying to lay down a foundation now, but other than spring football and recruiting its really dead between now and August.

Um I think you're correct w/ Chryst and Bollinger's handling of our QB situation.

I think we're set for an 8-4/9-3 type season. Anything better than that would be icing on the cake IMO.
I'm listening to Chris Peak talk during the Pitt Scrimmage... Its sounding like Trey Anderson may pass Myers on the depth chart... wow
It's hard to believe that these kids come in and consistently fail at the QB position at Pitt. Despite it being the most challenging and demanding position, we should be able to find somebody who can at least operate an offense. Unfortunately, the last time we had anyone even near that definition was Bill Stull and that only lasted for one season.

Did you ever think you would yearn for the days of Stull? I sure didn't.

I don't know what's wrong with Meyers but it's really disheartening to see him falling down the depth chart behind a lightly recruited and heavily undersized Trey Anderson. Anderson's got the fire in his belly - I'll give him that. Still, with Meyers' physical talents there's no way he should be getting surpassed by Anderson. It's got to be a mental issue with him and that means it may never get better.
The sad thing is we may not be able to red shirt Voytik if he isn't ready to play. How comfortable are you with Trey Anderson playing if Tino was to get hurt?
