Tired of the Marshall and ECU fans grumble about travel and what they "deserve" and their acting that they are the lead dogs in non-aq conference world. Why in the world would any MAC team leave a 65 year old stable and growing conference for the indecisive mess that is the "Alliance"??

Marshall was a short-timer in the MAC that thought the grass was greener on the other side and then made a mistake.

How has CUSA helped Marshall? It hasn't at all. Their attendance is no better than their MAC days, their facilities have not improved and are worse than most MAC schools, their athletic budget hasn't improved, they struggle to win, and they are on TV much less. Their fans (and ECU's) routinely grumble about travel. Marshall screwed up but won't swallow their pride and admit it. Who is their main rival? A MAC school (OHIO)

And I'm getting tired of the unjustified arrogance of some ECU fans and their constant whining that they think they "deserve" a Big East invite and think they are the big fish left in the non-aq pond. Besides some otherwise impressive attendance numbers, what exactly has ECU done? You won two CUSA championships 4 years ago and beat Virginia Tech and a Big East champion and a few other BCS teams ever so often? Big deal! NIU, Toledo, Miami and others in the MAC have better resumes. Toledo beat Penn State and Michigan, NIU beat Alabama, Miami beat Virgiania Tech and the Rose Bowl bound Big Ten Champs. Has ECU ever finished in the Top 12 in the final AP Ranking? NIU and Miami have.

ECU and Marshall should come to terms and join the MAC East not the other way around. The MAC is weathering conference realignment quite nicely.

Old Dominion and JMU will make great additions in your absense.

To answer one question, yes we've finished as high as #9 before.

Second, I didn't know the MAC had sent invitations to ECU and Marshall. I need to look that up.

Most of the MAC teams are centralized, so traveling to away games for fans probably ain't a big deal like it would be for an ECU or a Marshall or a UTEP or Tulsa for that manner, so if some fans want to gripe, who cares what you're tired of. Are you not griping right now......................

Some may appear arrogant, but as many have said before, look at the way realignment has worked in the pecking order and where most of the teams came from (aside from Temple). As for "deserving", there are alot of deserving teams that are getting left behind.
Know why you're weathering conference realignment? Because you're mostly located in the rustbelt towns and have little to no fanbase to speak of. Population in Michigan is actually DECREASING. Population growth in Ohio has slowed to nearly a halt. Get a grip on reality. ECU overall is FAR superior to any all sports member of the MAC. Your line about Marshall's fanbase and facilities is a flat out lie as well. They're in the process of building right now. Football stadium seats 38K, more than anybody in the MAC. Sounds like you're still butt hurt because Marshall came straight out of FCS and basically prison raped everybody in MAC football.

Marshall does belong in the MAC. Anyone outside of Huntington, and even most of them, knows that. The Joan may hold 38K, but outside of WVU coming to town, it never does.

So....the core MAC schools are all within a few hours of each other right?

But ECU can sell out 50,000 against UAB. Any questions?

No wonder you guys want us in your league. You might want to do more research on Marshall and ECU's facilities.
Seriously though if this ever came down to joining the MAC or the Sun-Belt I would guess ECU would join the MAC FB only (which would probably be best for both sides). I don't think it's ever reaching that point, but the MAC east actually makes more sense from a geography standpoint than the Sun-Belt does.
As an outside observer, I will say that some (not all) ECU/Marshall fans can come across as condescending and elitist. For example, I have seen it numerous times that an ECU fan says "we have to hold ODU down so they don't pass us" and "ODU/UNCC/GaState/etc. have to pay their dues in another conference before they are worthy of joining CUSA." I'm not trying to start a p*ssing contest, but you have to admit those types of comments are inflamatory.

This whole conference realignment crap sucks. It's kicked the legs out of many of us...in the CUSA, the MWC and the CAA. We don't have to like it, but we have to deal with it. If it hasn't proven anything, it's proven which schools truly DO have the upper hand. If you haven't been invited to a better conference...and I include ODU in that...you don't have the upper hand. It might be due to market. It might be due to football or lack of football. It might be due to your school colors. It doesn't matter. If you haven't been invited to move up, you have to make the best of a bad situation. I see no point in name calling or denigrating some other school in another conference. We're all just trying to wade through the manure pile we've been dealt while holding our collective noses.

I think you're right. I tend to wonder if Marshall went would ECU follow and the other way around.
But to lose that rivalry with Southern Miss. .............well.................
As an aside, the MAC has the slickest logo of any of the conferences, IMO. The PAC12 one comes close, but I like the MAC's most.

For the record I'd actually like to be in a league with ODU, JMU, Georgia State and/or Delaware if they decide to move up. Promoting a 6th program in North Carolina (a state that already gets pillaged by VT and the SEC for it's top football talent) just isn't a smart move. Georgia and VA are fast growing states also and have a lot of talent to go around and each state only has 2 FBS level programs. It's comparing apples (Charlotte / App) and oranges (ODU / JMU / GSU / Delaware).

I hear what you're saying though. Some ECU fans can't recognize the difference I'm presenting.

Good post and totally agree. When fans do that, it's no different than the Big East or ACC doing the same thing to ECU or some other school. You'll notice...I'm an ECU fan........but "I Root for the UNDERDOG".

I agree with NQ above also. GA State, ODU especially would be two good markets, some good basketball and baseball and an easy drive for an away game.

Sorry you don't like those comments, but too bad. If the roles were reversed you would feel the same way. Inviting large market start ups is not making the best of a bad situation, it's incubating regional large market programs for the BE. It's one thing if those large market programs are in Florida or Texas, that doesn't really make much of a difference to ECU day to day. Charlotte or ODU doing the same is a back breaker to ECU. So what's the benefit to us to help you guys out? Why should we be expected to do things for you that none of our regional neighbors did for us 30 years ago? I'd feel differently if I knew realignment was settled, and we were going to be working together for the long haul.

I for one would love to see Marshall back in the MAC. Natural rivalry with Ohio and some history with Miami.

Having said this, I think it's better for Marshall to be in the C-USA.

Again, I was there...and like I said...the stadium was "basically" packed.
That's under 60% of capacity.

So when students gets D's at ECU, did they "basically" Ace the class?
