Can't complain about the schedule this year because there were way too many moving parts. Road schedule has bigger games but next year that should change.

Guys I am not sure the team could handle a crazy schedule anyway this season.
Gotta give the department a by on this season's schedule. What a mess. Last time we opened with a BE game it went great for us and set the tone for an amazing season, right?

Louisville and VTech look like the two toughest games, both basically on the road.

Toledo, Rutgers, and Pitt all have new coaches. Temple is still Temple. I will be disappointed if we don't get 9 wins.

I think they are all scheduled except for maybe the MAC schools now that Temple left? I agree this stinks but it sounds like the AD is committed to making this only a one time event. Some other BCS schools have purposefully scheduled two 1-AA teams in the same year in the past. What I took away from that article is that we apparently have a bye the first weekend? Not good because those bye weeks come in handy during the year when guys are banged up.

There were a slew of schools open including I believe Middle Tennessee State, Houston, and Louisiana-Lafayette. Ideally I would have liked Missouri but they just signed a series with Syracuse.

Missouri would've been great but apparently they would only take a home game with no return and Syracuse agreed to that. bearcatvol over on Scout did a running piece on schools with openings and Houston filled it's schedule in February, ULL filled its schedule a few weeks ago, and MTSU announced their schedule on March 1st. Not sure how hard we tried to negotiate with these schools previously but maybe their openings didn't coincide with ours.
Rutgers, VTech, Ville should be very strong next year. Pitt always has talent, but new coach there also.
Winning @ UConn is never easy. @Toledo could be interesting, but their defense is usually bad. Temple is pretty good.

Yea I haven't been tracking it in months. Given the situation I can't really blame Whit or this AD but I was hoping with his connections he would have figured something out.

Delaware St (3-8) FCS

Syracuse (5-7)
Rutgers (9-4)
USF (5-7)

"neutral" site
Virginia Tech (11-3)

road
Toledo (9-4)
UConn (5-7)
Louisville (7-6)
Temple (9-4)

We best sweep those home games .

...and so the ground work is laid... for others to use the crappy schedule to excuse bad attendance.

Two FCS schools and three teams that played in the MAC last season. Yipppeeee! We will have to go 7-5 to be Bowl eligible. If we don't go 9-3 with this schedule we should be ashamed.

I'm thinking more about 10-2 as a bare minimum goal here...
All I have to say is, the future BE better go to nine league games 03-banghead
Bought my season tix today anyways. They will still be selling beer correct?

Yea you'll need it vs. Delaware State/Fordham.
Honestly, we're probably going to need the gimmes. Key components of our offense are going to have to get up to speed and a lot of guys are going to need the reps on both sides of the ball. Need to get some of the youngins blooded in.

C'mon. 10-2? Considering everyone we lost from last year? And the away schedule? I think that's way too high. Without taking the in-conference schedule sequence into account I'd say 8-4 should be the goal. VT and UL are probably Ls, we never play well at UConn, that Toledo game has trap written all over it. Temple? Who knows. But people are overlooking Rutgers I think - sure it's at home, but they're a preseason favorite to win the league along with UL. That won't be easy.
We are playing 2 FCS clubs and Toledo, Miami OH, Temple. Replacing a starting backfield or not, anything less than 8 wins is a big disappointment.
CD11, it's not like we have WVU anymore. Maybe 10-2 won't happen, but it's certainly doable.

Maybe I shouldn't have thrown the "bare minimum" phrase in front of it, but I won't be happy if we lose to Pitt with a new coach (tuneup or not), Rutgers at home, UConn (who seldom ever finds a competent QB), or especially any MAC team. There would be no excuse for any of those occurrences.

Yeah, we're sure to be underdogs to VT and UL, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect wins otherwise.
If there was any season we needed some extra fluff with more home games it would be this one. After next year CBJ should have started a steady flow of recruits so we're not rebuilding. I'd say 8-4 should be the judgement line.
I think somewhere between 7-5 and 9-3 is realistic given the holes that need to be filled. Butch's first season was killed due a non-conference schedule that included Oklahoma, Fresno, and NC State.

In college football you only need difficult schedule if you believe you are going to compete for a national championship, UC isn't this so it doesn't matter what the computer numbers say. This isn't college basketball where you need a good RPI.
Any word on PBS games this year? I enjoyed the two last year.

Unfortunately, not many good targets at all (Miami? Pittsburgh?) for PBS games in 2012.

Every game will be at Nippert this year, none at PBS.
The games at PBS were not a success financially due in art to sponsorships etc. Nippert is now the focus for the future and some upgrading should take place in about two years.

Small upgrades or big upgrades?
Full schedule due out at noon today.
