I know the comparison will get me slammed, but he reminds me so much of Kenyon... probably a year behind developmentally though.

I think he'll have a very good next year, and a GREAT senior year.
His understanding is better than people realize, he just tries to play way too fast, if he can slow down a little he can be a 1st Team All Big East guy. Kenyon's fouls and turnovers were poor but got much better, but what I see from the stat line, is there's a good chance that Justin Jackson becomes only the second Bearcat since I've followed to average over 1 assist per game, 2 blocks per game, and 1 steal per game. I think as junior JJ produces a slightly better line than Kenyon did as a sophomore.

Kenyon's Sophomore year - 28.6 min/g - 47.6% foul shooter
9.9 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.4 apg, 2.8 bpg, 1.0 spg, 3.6 fouls/g, 1.7 topg

J Jackson's Sophomore year - 21.1 min/g - 52.3% foul shooter
5.1 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.6 bpg, .9 spg, 3.1 fouls/g, 1.5 topg
JJ averages rated at 28.6 min/g
6.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.5 apg, 2.2 bpg, 1.2 spg, 4.2 fouls/g, 2.0 topg
I think he's a different player. He blocks a lot of shots in transition, not so much in the halfcourt. I like the way he has been facing up and slashing to the basket- he handles it pretty well for a big guy. Needs to work on a midrange game. Needs to work on rebounding the basketball. Needs to work on playing defense and staying aggressive without fouling.

I'd say he has a long way to go before he's a Kenyon-type performer. Wouldn't be surprised to see him be a 10 pt 5 rebound 2 bpg / 2 apg type guy next year.
I hope I am wrong but I don't see much upside with Justin Jackson.
Great Motor and gives it 100% but is very limited. I see him being a career 6th man.

No Outside Shot. Not a lot of post moves. He needs to learn to play under control. Too many turnovers and losing his guy on Defense or rebounding
He really just needs to get in the gym and mature as a player. He has solid offensive moves when he is patient and doesn't just throw the ball at the backboard. Defensively he really needs to focus on staying in position, while he does block a few shots in the half court, Jackson denies nearly every fast break lay up, which is huge. Bottom line is the kid needs to mature and realize he can be a 10 point 5 rebound a game guy.
Kmart played with his back to the basket and JJ fronts the basket. Different players no doubt. JJ can put the ball on the floor and drive which is something KMart did not much of in his career.
I think JJ getting those big blocks from behind is actually bad for him. When he chases down the court, he actually slows up to try to get those Lebron type blocks instead of beating his man to the basket and turning him back like he should. He has no fundamentals almost anywhere in his game. If he commits to actually learning how to defend both on the post and perimeter he could be a great defender. Also needs to learn positioning for rebounding.

Actually, he pretty much needs to learn everything about fundamental basketball, but he sure is fun to watch.

Hard to do that if you are chasing from behind on a fastbreak.

100 pct agree. I'd love to be wrong too, but his basketball IQ and style of play has to change dramatically. He can't keep himself on the court long enough to be effective due to his pattern of excessive dumb fouling..........and while he is a hyperactive ball of energy...his interior defense is very lacking. The majority of his blocks, unlike Kenyon, come from extreme hustle plays where he chases down guys breaking downcourt for layups. Those are great, but on his "straight defense"....he often loses his guy when the oppposing team creates any penetration and he gives up a ton of offensive rebounds because he's out of position. The number of missed tip-ins/layups, etc he's had this year has been frustrating. I see an "energy" guy, who can create momentum in short bursts (which is of tremendous benefit and can change games)............but I don't see a Maxiel, Hicks type (let alone Kenyon) of 30 minute player who has consistent "go to" contributions game in and game out.
Guys, we got nothing to worry about...I compared JaQuan Parker to Dwayne Wade...now we have Justin Jackson as Kenyon Martin...Titus Rubles as Ruben Patterson. We're unbeatable with this lineup 04-cheers
So we have some guys who think he is the reincarnation of Kmart and some guys who thinks he's a pretty bauble that really aint worth a ****. I think he's somewhere in between and he will mature and learn to stay on the floor better and will be an important cog of this team next year who is going to score some baskets 10 feet and in.

Hard to do that if you are chasing from behind on a fastbreak.

As often as not, the fast break basket he's attempting to block came as a direct result of a JJ turnover on the other end. At least he's extra motivated to erase his error.
Now if we could just get someone to be Ronald Allen04-rock
I'm going to disagree on JJ having a small upside. He is freaky athletic, 6'8", goes 100%, and loves the game.

His first obstacle to becoming a 40 minute presence is bad foul trouble. Both last year and this one he averaged around 3 fouls per 20 minutes of play. Sliding your feet and not jumping at every pump fake will help him become a better defender and keep dumb fouls down. Stop reaching in on the perimeter. These are coachable, tangible parts of the game where JJ has plenty of room for improvement.

We don't need him to be an offensive superstar. We need him to get offensive rebounds and run the court. He absolutely has the potential to be a solid 10 point, 10 rebound, 4 block kind of player. Hell, if you project his averages to a full game's worth of minutes he was almost there this year.

...and that doesn't even include SK and Cash 04-rock 03-lmfao
The thing with JJ is he has a lot of talents but it's hard to put them all together. For instance he's a good ballhandler for a big guy but he dribbles too much and turns the ball over. He even has back to the basket capabilities, he scored at least one basket last night on a back to the basket move. Him being the energy guy off the bench kind of disguises the skills he has. Next year he has to play more conventionally both offensively and defensively and if he does I think he's got a chance to be an all conference player.

^^^^^This^^^^^

If I never see him try to dribble drive from the perimeter again for the rest of my life it won't be long enough.
I think Jackson has huge upside. You can't teach what that kid has. Huge motor and quickness for a player his size. Whether or not he realizes the potential is a fair debate.

HE plays as hard as anyone and brings a lot of enthusiasm out on the court but I question his KNOWLEDGE and understanding of the game. Was his coaches that good in high school or even AAU if he played it?
