Ole Miss loading up with people from the SBC. Of course, they were an SBC level football program last year.

I wouldn't quite give them that much credit

LSU didn't take a knee with 5 minutes left versus WKU.

Bjork was in Marshall's final 3 when we were looking for an AD in 09. Im glad we hired Hamrick, I didn't think Bjork would stay long at where ever he started out at.

Presidents handle realignment. Your services are no longer needed

Yeah, that's all they do all day....worry about which conference their athletic teams participate in.

Your services were 'never' needed.
Ole Miss is a crap shoot. You can't win at Ole Miss, especially in the SEC West.

Cutcliff did a pretty good job. They were crazy for firing him.

I wouldn't read much into the timing in terms of realignment. According to the Sun Sentinel:

Quote:Angelos's contract was up in September, but there was a clause in his contract that if he were going to be fired without cause, he had to be given six months notice, which is why this came down now.

This was about money...and the fact Angelos couldn't raise enough of it. He's more of an administrator and from what I understand, FAU wants to bring in a more out-going AD that can get out and bring in more money. That was not Angelos' personality.

Right; but you wouldn't be changing horses in mid-stream, esp. if negotiations were going well with the Alliance group. Sept. is still a long ways off and FAU is only replacing him with an interim A.D. not a prescreened heavy-hitter. If Garcia was being forced out at this time I would not be looking at it as a positive.

Everything isn't about realignment. The alliance is not going to make a lot of money for any school, it's what that school puts on the field and the people who pay for it that makes money. Look at Louisville then look at USF.
I agree with 561.

This was about raising money and getting the program out there. Craig did a very good job on getting the budget balanced and facilities in place. He was not a very good PR guy or fundraiser. So we move on and get the person that can be the "rainmaker" FAU needs now.

The fact that FAU's stadium, visible directly from 1-95, STILL doesnt have naming rights indicated for a lot of us that this area was sorely lacking. Some argued about the bad economy but I call BS on that one because North Texas found a sponsor in the same economy.

As to realignment I dont think this is going to hurt us in all the shuffling. Ultimately the presidents and the BOT make the final decision and they arent changing.

Did I say the timing was a positive? Nope. I just explained why they made the move now. There's no good time to have to fire someone. There were probably a number of factors in play, but it's doubtful that realignment was high on that list. Outside the poor performance of most of FAU's teams this year, it's pretty clear that they are making a change now because Angelos couldn't deliever enough money to the program. FAU has a new president. It's only natural she'd want to bring in her own person...and it just so happened now was the time when FAU needed to make a move if they were going to replace this guy. Not sure how you read realignment into that.

If you want to know the truth behind this, read this article from the FAU University Press. It's excellent and makes the reasons for this change very clear:

Who is this "rainmaker"? You'd think they'd be banging the drum for this guy, if he really existed....yet there is an internal interim taking over until some 'national' search is conducted.

North Texas sits in the middle of a sea of oil and with gas prices above $4 they are an anomoly. FAU, like the rest of the country deals in reality; huge stadium naming rights are a thing of the 90's....the fad is tapering off. FIU's stadium is visible from the Fla. Turnpike (where 10's of thousands of cars drive by every day) and nobodies banging our door down to put their name on our stadium.

You really need to ask yourslef; if Angelos was on the brink of signing with a new conference would he be pink-slipped or having his salary doubled? right?
Excellent article. There's also something about firing a coach eleven months in advance that makes you scratch your head, which he did with the women's basketball coach.

"Hey, we're firing you, but not until after next season." Wow.

But why are you making this into an issue about realignment at all?? There is no school on the brink of "signing with a new conference". The conference you are referencing doesn't even exist yet. This was about FAU and it's internal problems...not getting out of the Sun Belt.
