Some Camp thoughts:

Pros: DLine, Secondary, WR's, RB's

Cons: OLine's Pass Protection

A few individuals that stood out so far are Dan Mason and Mark Meyers.

According to Paul Zeise's blog; Issac Bennett and Corey Jones are having fantastic camps and even hinted that Bennett may start the season ahead of Rushel Shell on the depth chart.

The only Con I listed isn't (and shouldn't be) a shocker. Its practically a rebuilt line and is growing every day of practice. I wouldn't be surprised if this unit is a strength by the time the season starts.

The biggest surprise about Mason is how solid he is playing after returning from his injury. Personally I think he'll be fine.

Mary Meyers apparently turned a 180 from this time last year. He seems to have a great drive to succeed and may challenge for the QB job this Fall according to Paul Zeise's Column from 2 days ago.

Seems like Spring Camp is a success so far, but its early and there are always a few set backs from the start of Camp till the Spring Game.

Note: I'm pretty much paraphrasing articles that I read between the PG and Tribune and putting them into my own words. I wished I had a chance to check out camp for myself to have my own analysis of what's going on.

If Myers wins the starting job, my interest level in Pitt football this season goes up to a 9. With Tino at QB, it's about a 6.

This is not to say that I am not interested or excited for the season to begin. Objectively, though, I just don't think that we are very interesting if Tino is the starting QB this year. He severely limits our potential. I know what's coming next - he "could" get better. More experience, a Paul Chryst system that suits him better, and a desire to prove the boo birds wrong "could" make Tino a better QB this year. To that, I say, I "could" win the lottery. I could finish my coffee, put some cash in my pocket, hop in the car, drive to Co-Gos, and purchase a lottery ticket which proves to be a winner. I think that the former is about as likely as the later.

We know who Tino is. Part (well...a lot) of his problem is that he's just not a good enough decision maker to be a college QB. He takes bad sacks and holds the ball too long. With an offense that needs to feature Ray Graham and the running game, that's not going to work. He's not Big Ben. He can't make up for his sacks with big plays on his own. In fact, that brings me to point two about Tino - he can't throw the deep ball to save his life. Whether it's a physical limitation or a mental limitation, he hasn't shown in two years that he's capable of throwing the deep ball. Not even as well as Bill Stull. Not even close.

So what do we have with Tino? I think we all know. A little time, little play QB. I just don't see his issues working themselves out. He may become marginally better this season but in my opinion, he's as good as he's going to get. Trouble is, that's not very good at all.

What do we have with Myers? Well...nobody knows. He apparently hasn't been mature enough yet to give it a good shot at competing for the QB job and what little we saw of him under Graham wasn't nearly enough to formulate an opinion. They say he's got a big arm and throws a nice ball. That's a start. The uncertainty makes Myers an interesting candidate to lead this team this year and I have full confidence that he'll only play if he's much better than Tino. If this is the case, my interest level will definitely rise to a 9.
Great summery. All reports on Myers is awesome right now. But in reality we don't know much about him until he sees game action.
