Big East and B1G have both been outstanding so far in the tournament. Both have 3 teams in the Sweet 16 already, and the B1G has a chance to get TWO more in today (Purdue and Michigan State) while the Big East can get THREE more (GO USF, GO Cincy, and GO GEORGETOWN!).

Big East is 10-3 so far, B1G is 8-1, a combined 18-4.

So far, though, we've TOTALLY avoided each other! No games have featured B1G vs Big East, and none of the 5 games involving the remaining teams do today. So it is possible that at the end of today there will be SIX Big East and FIVE Big Ten teams in the Sweet 16.

And even in the Sweet 16, the only confirmed matchup is Syracuse vs Wisconsin. Other possibilities (* indicates a team that has not yet advanced to SW16):

Purdue*/Georgetown*
Cincy*/Ohio State
Michigan State*/Louisville

Would LOVE to see all of these come to fruition and set up a massive B1G/Big East battle-royale in the Sweet 16 !!!
I've been paying attention to that too. Definitely the two standout conferences so far this year. The Big 12 (and ACC to a lesser extent) had plenty of potential (and may still have a team win the whole thing), but these two have been best so far by a wide margin. Let's see how things play out from here.
Good points Quo...

FSU scares me though...tough match up for us. We are not a prolific scoring team and FSU is a great big team that plays tough defense. They dont score a lot either, and they do turn it over a ton so who knows.

I know everybody in OH wants to see UC/OSU....but we have a pretty big mountain to climb first.
Scratch Georgetown from the list of BEast teams to the Sweet Sixteen...
Yes the Big East and Big 10 have shown their mettle thus far for sure.

Yeah, they laid an egg today. Couldn't believe that shot the guy tried with over 10 seconds still left. Very un-Georgetown-like to be that impatient.

Yea. GT had a shot to come up with a better shot than that or he could have pulled it out for something better.

And THAT was what they came up with coming out of a timeout. Inexcusable.
I'm still not impressed by JT3. He ain't his daddy...
I thought Gtown was going to pull this one out of the fire too....

as someone already stated, the shot from the baseline with 10 sec left was just horrible any way you slice it. That was the game right there....not a good way to end.

No, he is not his daddy, but truth be told the teams he puts on the court are as good as the ones his dad put out his last 5 or so years. Big JT never figured out the 3 point line.

That said, the Hoyas have now been upset, losing to double digit seeds, the last 4 tournament appearances.

And i will go to my grave thinking our 2006 and 2007 teams should have won the two national titles Florida won those years, very talented teams that JT3 could not get over the hump.
B1G now has 4 in the Sw16 ... it's up to cincy and usf to keep up the pace.

No he ain't.

But hey, he actually managed to win a tournament game this year, so there's that for progress. 03-banghead
This is been a great tournament as far as rooting interest for me so far. The Big Ten has won every game except for Michigan (and that's not terrible) and Ohio teams are doing well. It may not end up this way (in fact probably won't) but OU is winning, Xavier is coming back, and Purdue is winning right now. It's actually possible that there will be 4 Ohio teams and 5 Big Ten teams in the Sweet 16 (although that would require everything to go right) which would be nice from my perspective. Put another way that would be an Ohio team or a Big Ten team in all but 1 Sweet 16 games.

Edit: It could actually be all but one (Marquette vs. Florida).

You got to love such an optimist... 04-cheers
4 Big East teams, 4 Big Ten teams, three head-to-head matchups...LET'S DO THIS THING.

Most psyched about the Buckeyes being forced to play Cincinnati.

OSU

no ducking now like you did when Huggins was here...

no playing us when we are at our worst and you have your best team in 20 years like the pre season NIT...

no giving us a million dollars to move a game like you did in football....

nope...its a good UC team vs a good OSU team...first time since we beat your arse in 1962 national title game

Lets go Cats!
The Bearcats will have some serious motivation on Thursday night vs. the _uckeyes. Not that UC didn't play with incredible intensity and resolve against Florida State. This team has tremendous will to win.
14/16 or 87.5% of the teams in the Sweet 16 are from the Big 6 conferences. Pretty dominant performance by the Big 6 this year.

4 teams from the Big East (Syracuse, Louisville, Marquette, Cincinnati)
4 teams from the Big Ten (Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Indiana)
2 teams from the ACC (North Carolina, NC State)
2 teams from the Big 12 (Kansas, Baylor)
2 teams from the SEC (Kentucky, Florida)
1 team from the A10 (Thug U)
1 team from the MAC (Ohio University)
