I saw it last night. It is such a powerful documentary. Sad, uplifting, funny. It is a must see.
Yup... It's the best film I've seen in a while. Every Memphian should see it
Hope Church's Oasis of Hope

In 2002, Oasis of Hope began partnering with a forgotten neighborhood north of downtown. Few Memphis communities have faced harder times. Crime rates, economic decline, and infant mortality are among the highest in the country … education, employment, and annual income, among the lowest. This is the area made infamous by the rap lyrics from Three 6 Mafia:
North Memphis where I’m from, I’m 7th Street bound
Where people all the time end up lost and never found.

It doesn’t happen overnight, but today hope is spreading across this community in North Memphis. Thanks to God and the genuine efforts of many people, life-on-life relationships are being built. Oasis of Hope is changing hearts and lives by creating an “oasis” in the center of an urban neighborhood. Hundreds of volunteers, supporters and neighborhood families are helping to demonstrate Christ’s love.

Together we’re improving the quality of neighborhood life and rebuilding the community through empowerment and partnerships… together, we’re making sure more don’t get lost.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
- Martin Luther King, Jr

So, what is Oasis' connection with the Manassas Football Team and the documentary Undefeated? For years we have assisted Manassas High School in providing volunteer coaches, pre-game meals, fans in the stands, and conducted a pre-season training camp for the players where we not only hone their athletic skills, but their spiritual game as well! Oasis' staff was highly involved in assisting the movie directors as they shot hours and hours of film of the team. Undefeated takes place in our ministry neighborhood and chronicles the Manassas Tigers’ 2009 football season, on and off-the-field, as they strive to win the first playoff game in the high school’s 110-year history.

mrsoldtiger doesn't laugh out loud or cry in movies.

She did both while we watched Undefeated.

Amazing documentary that shines a spotlight on a area/situation in need of of help.

My daughter taught for awhile in one of the elementary schools in that area that eventually fed into Manassas and we've done some minor work in that area. It absolutely is an area that needs help.
I sat there with tears running down my face. I have worked as a public health nurse in the most poverty stricken areas of Memphis but those kids simply broke my heart/made my heart glad. Bill must have been blessed by God. There is no other way he could relate and influence those kids and keep going under the circumstances.
When people criticize Blind Side or Undefeated stories, particularly for the purported "paternalistic"/"condescending" approach (which I think is ridiculous in both cases, I have to respond by asking them what they would prefer, that people of opportunity do nothing? That people who care do nothing?

I am proud that both of these stories shed a different light on our community than many of the divisive or sobering stories.
I saw Undefeated last night! Was an excellent movie! I laughed my butt off at some of the things the coach would say, and then the next moment was crying. I highly recommend the movie to everyone!
