Sounds like a good deal.

Temple probably started negotiating at 2.5M or so.

MAC probably tried for 10M.

6M sounds like a nice compromise.
so maybe now they'll be able to announce the 2012 football schedules?

The MAC and the BE are the last two who have not announced.
And good riddance, now we can focus on who actually wants to be here.
$6MM...pretty sweet! A bit more than I expected.

Looks like the BE is picking up the entire tab...WOW!!!
I guess I thought the BE is picking up the extra $3.5MM and Temple is covering the base $2.5MM...no??

Yeah! Now that this matter is resolved, we should be seeing the release of both schedules soon enough!
"Next several weeks" is what the MAC said in their press release concerning schedules.

Note that Steinbrecher says that a departing school under the agreement needs to give "two seasons notice" and not 2 full calendar year notice as CMUprof was trying to assert.

Therefore, UMass could leave with just the 500k penalty to the alliance for 2013 if they so get the opportunity to do so. I'm not sure if they will be given that chance by the alliance.

If UMass doesn't go the MAC will find itself in a position of having to expand again for the 2013 season by July 1st. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Congrats Temple for having your BE all sport dream finally come true after 20 years of roadblocks.
As I reported two weeks ago, Temple is gone. Actually, they were gone then and only the $$$ needed to be finalized.

I wish Temple well and were glad they were a part of the league even for this short time.

One school I wish the MAC would target for all sports is Western Kentucky. WKU would be an excellent addition for the MAC in all sports. I know Rick Chryst tried hard to get that done nearly a decade ago and Miami and EMU blocked it. Hopefully time has made both schools smarter to get this done ASAP.

Why would EMU not want them in?
...and why would WKU agree to come to the MAC now that they are in the Sunbelt with other southern regional teams?

The EMU administration was a mess back then and I have no idea why they would not 'go along to get along'...

FCS teams have to file by June 1st this year to start play in 2013, if the MAC wants to go that route. I'm thinking 13 in '13 is much more likely, and the MAC will target 2014 as the year they make the difficult decisions about whether they want 12, 14 or 16.

I'm on the record for 15 and a 3 division setup with a mini playoff.

If the alliance is cashing in on a mini playoff the MAC may as well do the same.
