Granted ND is ND, but why you let them punk your football side of things out? Patial schedule when the are already part of the BCS when they win enough games, and have their own NBC tv deal.

I really can't figure it out.

Unless they give your conference a cut of the NBC tv money I'd tell 'em all sports OR no sports and be done w/ the bastages. :ninja:
ND is key to the other bowl tie ins especially the Gator Bowl. But sooner or later they will have to make up their minds, is it the Big East or the Big 10.

-- Assuming everything remains the same....the BE needes ND to help with the bowl tie ins and give us a chance to get back on our feet for the next few years

-- However....things look like they are not remaining the same....NDs new willingless to play an increased # of BE games per year has led many of us to hope that some kind of partial membership may be on the horizon

-- I promise you that MT and his staff our working very hard to find away to strengthen/solve the scheduling problems for the football side and at the same time keep the 16 team bball league together....I think that's why there as been so much Army and Navy talk to go long with the ND to BE rumors that are floating around

Jackson1011,

Do you think there is enough support from the Big East's AD for inclusion of both Army and Navy as football-only members?

And I agree with you, it really looks like Notre Dame has bought into a partial schedule of Big East conference foes.

Easier said than done. The Gator Bowl and Insite Bowls are only Big East bowls because of the tie-in with Notre Dame.

That's a tough one......I know that right after Boston College left that there was an article in the New York Post that said the BE was strongly considering replacing BC with Army and Navy and having a 9 team football conference...now obviously that didn't happen but I'm thinkin there must have been some support for that idea

--Also during that time last year...the Rutgers AD was on ESPN radio (I think) and they were talking about Post ACC raid BE football...at the end of the interview the show's host asked the AD which expansion prospects got a lot of support but didn't get the invite...the Rutgers AD response was Army and Navy

-- Now with that being said....I am fairly certain that the Naval Academy would easily have the votes to get in BE football right now....they have a good young coach, strong fan support, a traditional eastern rival for many schools in the BE, perfect location in between DC and Baltimore so BE footbal would be shown in those big time markets...and they have the all important relationship with ND...the question seems to be does Navy want in??....rumor has it they have already been offered the 9th spot once and declined....unfortunatly I have heard two reasons (I think only one can be correct) why they made that choice...either they weren't confident they could compete...or if they joined a conference they wanted Army in that league too....after watching Navy destroy probably the best Rutgers team in a generation...my personal feeling is the second reason is more likely and that's why I have included Army in much of posts...I don't know if Army AND Navy would have support from the ADs....although I personally think its a slam dunk

-- One last thought on ND....its great news that ND has finally started to schedule more BE games...but I think the goal has to be getting official partial membership from the Irish (that means seeing the BE football logo on the Irish unis when the run on the field) ....in order for us to make that happen we need to add a traditional ND rival or two into the league...what other school that is available to us fit that bill like Army and Navy?? How much do you think are TV package would go up if ND vs Navy and Army vs Navy was apart of it? Personally...I think it would go up a great deal

-- It is my personal belief that had BC stayed....the BE would have added Navy and ND (partial schedule) for football last summer...lots of signs were pointing towards it...but the USF for BC trade turned ND off to it...maybe adding Army and Navy would make us more appealing

Jackson
Thanks Jackson,

I think your analysis makes a great deal of sense. Clearly, the Big East needs to add 1 maybe 2 teams for football. My preference, of the teams available, would be Navy and Memphis. Unfortunately, I don't think that Memphis would accept a football-only invitation, and I think your analysis of Navy wanting Army maybe undercuts Navy's willingness to join. But I agree with you that Mike T. is working extremely hard to get this resolved.
ND counts toward BE tie ins? WOW, you guysa re punked more than I thought.

How can you play a partial schedule, and aren't considered a "football member" yet get get tie in slots w/ the conference?

 03-confused :bang:

I don't think you understand the situation.

We wouldn't even have these bowls if Notre Dame wasn't affiliated with the league.
Does ND sahre bowl revenue w/ you?

B/c if not I can't reason out how a partial schedule fball team that doesn't bowl revenue share w/ you gets you extra bowl bids that without them you wouldn't have? Who negotiated this kind of deal? It seems like ND is the puppet master of BE football.
Notre Dame will be made to play or leave by 2010! If they can fins a coach!
it certainaly benefits the Irish as they do not have to share any of the revenue with the BE. The agreement is set.

THE RULE
The BIG EAST and the University of Notre Dame have an agreement which allows Notre Dame the opportunity to be selected by the Toyota Gator Bowl, Insight Bowl or Continental Tire Bowl if the Fighting Irish are bowl eligible and do not qualify for the Bowl Championship Series.

The Toyota Gator Bowl may select Notre Dame up to two times over a four-year span that begins in 2002. The game chose the Fighting Irish two seasons ago. The other two contests may select the Irish once over the same period.

All bowls will adhere to the conference=s Aone-win@ rule whether they select a BIG EAST team or Notre Dame. Any selection of a team with fewer victories must be within one win of all other bowl eligible teams. League squads must be within one conference victory. For example, a team with a 4-3 BIG EAST record cannot be chosen before a team with a 6-1 league mark. Overall records are used for comparison when a bowl is considering Notre Dame in conjunction with a conference team.
Murph 1 that was great info...

OK who negotiated such a deal?

I mean if hte BE is so hot and all, why can't the conference by itself (aka -ND) get 4-5 Bowl bids on its own? I mean HELL CUSA has 5!!! (Liberty, GMAC, Ft Worth, Hawaii, and NO) Surely the mid major conference w/o ND shouldn't have more bowls than a BCS league right

Not trying to flame...but it just don't add up.
WOW their coaching search is travesty now.. FIR a good coach and then let the guy you want go to UF ...what gives? :stupid:

Oh we could. Could easily, but we need a quality second place bowl behind the BCS and Tire or Fort Worth or what not doesn't cut it. Gator does and we don't have the Gator without the Irish (because the majority of Big East teams don't travel well).

I don't understand what you aren't understanding. It's a better deal for ND of course, but the Big East benefits by getting the Gator Bowl at least 2 out of every 4 years (usually more often with ND sucking recently). And the partial schedule, you get more TV games which means more TV revenue.
I think you would be tire of kissing Notre Dame's "a s s "! :bang:
Wilkie I was thinking the same!!
