5 months until fall camp starts. No time to waste. The rumor-mill has gone cold. I'm not convinced they are going anywhere.

.
The serious work is done in secret. Have no knowledge, just know about our move up and the long quiet periods. One posted said it's quiet and then it happens. Know for a fact that our last quiet period was the back forth negotiations with Gillette.
you better start worrying about the 4 schools that alliance picks off
with temple gone, MAC would need 3 to get back CCG
only Temple is foolish enough to think moving from the MAC to the Frankenstein Conf. is a step up.

Fine by me. The current conference championship game (in Detroit) is an abomination that makes the MAC look even more bush league like because of its poor attendance for schools outside of maybe CMU and Toledo.

The conference championship game should be at one of the teams home field.

That would be seriously worth considering if the MAC pulls in an "Eastern Bloc" of football schools.

It should be seriously considered even without an "Eastern Bloc" of schools.

NIU, Toledo, UMASS & Buffalo would add access to several big markets along with 3 east coast teams.

Though I am not sure even 4X the TV money would be worth it for the student athletes.

I think the CUSA schools would crap a brick if Buffalo were invited... TO be fair out football has been awful..

But more to the point would these four schools, or any four, leave the MAC for a very modest tv contract increase (were talking 3-6% of most MAC budgets) when it means sending non revenue teams all over the nation?
So go all the way up and down the East Coast because they don't have to travel far enough as is? Even the most delusional CUSA fans can't be in favor of that right?

The best of the MAC is looking to upgrade football, not downgrade it in the alliance.

Is that bookmarked right next to the "Temple will join us" post and the "We will triple our tv contract" bookmark?

In my humble opinion, Buffalo has the most potential of any MAC school I believe but just hasn't been able to realize it yet. There are plenty of teams in college sports that have shown that once your administration gets truly committed to a sport/team/athletics, big changes can come quickly and I think Buffalo is in the best position of anybody if the right person were to become committed. CUSA fans are shortsighed and for some reason are more concerned with attendance and tv dollars than winning (which boggles my mind...I've never once gone to a game and cheered "yay attendance or yay tv money?) so I see your point but for someone that doesn't want to be completely ignorant, Buffalo should be a good consideration to other conferences because of their potential that could and would likely be realized. And I'm not talking about the potential that they talk about with Akron, I'm talking about real, actual potential.
I agree about UB. To have 'potential' a school should be reasonably large, have big budgets and enrollment, have a good population base, etc. etc.

UB meets that definition. A school like Robert Morris does not. UB has a lot more 'upside' then many MAC schools.

Unfortunately the politics in SUNY negate some of the advantages Buffalo should have.

Things are starting to get better as the Bigger campuses (Buffalo / Stony Brook) are pushing, and getting, a bit more autonomy but the NYS legislature and SUNY really hold back the schools.

The last tuition increase went 90% to the general fund and only 10% to the universities. Its that kind of crap and down state members of the senate that work against UB.

It seems all they care about is what TV market that team is in.

They think that we would leave because the TV money is going to be crazy big. What it actually is we will see.

They use the excuse that the Eastern and Western blocs are likely not going to play each other other than in tournaments. Looking at closer we currently/will fly to cross divisional opponents Buffalo, Temple & UMASS and would have to fly to Buffalo, UMASS & ECU just within our division and the cross division opponents in just the Eastern bloc would be super sized.

The only group that would make sense for NIU to join is if at least 3 of these 4 were invited too: Ball St, Toledo, Miami & WMU.

Kind of the same tihng for UB geographically if you added UMass, Akron, Kent, Ohio, Toledo (any three) then it might make sense for the UB.

But even then it's not a great enough leap in money or level of play to give up what we have in the MAC..
If we're staying, build a stronger MAC. Change the damn name from "Mid" American Conference, to the American Conference, or anything of the sort. Lets drop all "Mids" from our marketing/image ASAP.

All American Conference?
Great American Conference? (no one outside of Illinois will think of the amusement park!)
Big 14 Conference?
