This guy shows he is clueless by throwing out Jax State and Liberty. Ga State, Ga Southern and App State would make a nice addition to the SB. It shifts the conference east into the college football capital Atlanta and the State of GA while also adding two programs with unmatched football tradition. A perfect balance of a large market team and two teams that have a storeid history of winning championships on the field. Ga State, Ga Southern and App would also be three tremendous rivalry games as well.....very key for a strong conference.
Great, two more teams to argue about their names 01-lauramac2

Not hardly. Georgia Southern is never moving up.

As for rivalries we prefer USA 03-wink
Don't be so dismissive of Jax St. It would not be a popular choice on here, but its a name that I have heard before and the geography works pretty well with multiple schools being reasonably close by. Not saying they would be my first choice, just that I could see the powers that be adding them.

Liberty is the head scratcher to me. Not geographically compatible. Seems like if you wanted a basketball only school then you could do better.
Jax St....
It's embarrasing for Tech's name to be in that sentence. Not knocking the Sun Belt, just that sentence.

Not sure how you get that.

He's not comparing Tech and those programs agaisnt each other except by ONE criteria.

They all fit the geogrphic area that Karl Benson outlined. Regional, Southern. I know its distasteful to many of the 'Belt and Tech fans, but LA Tech is a PERFECT fit for the Sun Belt. Tech would strenghten our perception and we would save you money on travel.

Unless Tech get a Alliance invite i would think the only option is the 'Belt,

You wear it quite well sir...
You're right. If Georgia State and Liberty bring Tech some extra revenue, I'm for it. It's just kind of embarassing to me.

How is that "separation" thing working out for you?

Praying it will bring us an Alliance invite.

You should stay Div III or whatever then.
I wouldn't worry about it. Other than Tech, none of those schools are on the SBC radar. That guy is just shooting in the dark.

Both of those would probably be two of my top choices for expansion, assuming that FBS teams consider themselves "above" joining the Sun Belt. We'll show them! 04-rock
Except for Tech, all the rest of the schools on that list would be a mistake.
The more schools that are advanced from FCS to FBS, the smaller the piece of pie will be for everyone else. With the current requirement of a move-up requiring an FBS conference invitation, only the WAC has been looking to advance their membership with FCS programs and they may soon be out of the football business. Keeping the FBS population where it is will be better for all of our programs in the long run. Since UTSA and TSU already have an invitation and are moving up, they should be considered but not any other FCS program. And, yes, I realize USA is the new kid on the block, but having a path to FBS football is our reward for forming the Sun Belt and staying with it through the ups and downs.
