Akron entered the week in control of the West division with a 10-1 record. But the Zips will face Buffalo (second at 9-2) and Kent State (third at 8-3) in their last two games of the regular season. Akron (No. 61 RPI), which has wins at Mississippi State and Marshall, should be the favorite to win the MAC tourney, especially with Zeke Marshall (3.2 bpg) inside. Eastern Michigan leads the weaker East division at 6-5. The rest of the East possessed sub-.500 conference records entering the week.

Wow that is embarrassing for the writer of the article to mix up the two divisions but after clicking on the link it seems they fixed that issue. Why does the win over Marshall such a big win for Akron? They sit at 15-10 at the moment is it just due to RPI or is there more to it that Im missing?
I don't think you missed anything. I think the guy was pointing out two road wins against 2 fairly good conferences. I doubt beating 15-10 Marshall did much of anyting for Akron's RPI but winning 2 fairly tough road games could influence the committee if they can improve their RPI to 40. A this time of the seaso that would be tough.
