If there is any doubt, ask yourself this. If a rule came into place that a school could field a football team or a basketball team, which would your school pick? For the present Big East I would say:

Pitt - FB
Cuse - BB but probably a coin flip either way
WVU - FB
Rutgers -FB
UConn -BB
Louisville - BB
USF - FB
Cinci - A few years ago I think this was BB, but now I think FB wins in a coin flip

What about the new schools?
hmmm, um, well....ah fudge it. We are a women's soccer and racquetball school.
Over the past decade, UH has allocated the vast majority of our resources to football as a matter of survival.

At first, it rankled hoop fans like me. We thought a surer path to national relevance was on the hardwood. Then I saw Kansas twisting in the wind as the Pac 10 raid of the Big 12 almost happened. And I knew we made the right decision.

Hopefully, with the upcoming basketball stadium renovation and the new Big East stream of revenue, we can start prioritizing basketball in addition to football and capitalize on our great hoops heritage.

But right now, we are definitely a football school.
Believe it or not, San Diego State is a football school.

Yes I realize that basketball is off the hook right now and attendance is crazy, but San Diego has always been a football town and San Diego State has always been a football school.

A lackluster approach to football is what nearly buried Memphis. When I saw what happened with the B12 North schools that got me very worried, up to that point I didn't care what happened with football. Sad, but true. Still love basketball, but not going to be content with a ****** product playing football anymore.
Basketball CITY in a football region. The good news is that we can catch up quickly if everything falls right.
Yes.....
UH is football first. You can tell by the $$ and fan support it gets over basketball despite the five final four appearances. I'm hoping next year's top ten basketball class can rejuvenate our program before we head into the best basketball conference in the country so we can help fill the void left by Pitt and Syracuse.
Um, go ahead and take a wild guess with us. :)

Hopefully our men's BB program will improve significantly. The possible series with Memphis and UCONN have a lot of people excited here in Boise .. and will help with our recruiting too.
Louisville is a basketball school but football has come along way...Won't be long before football takes over. I would like to think we are more balanced right now.
Memphis Hip Hop Dance National Champs!
BB school.
DePaul is a football school, because we haven't had a basketball program for a few years now.

Well DePaul has what 10 Fr. and So. right now? You have been close in several of your losses and the future looks bright. I looked at the rosters tonight and saw that DePaul, Providence, Rutgers and St. Johns are all extremely young. Big East in 2013-2014 is going to be an absolute slugfest.

We had a terrible coach by the name of Jerry Wainwright, When we entered the BE we were fairly competitive then his recruits took over and the program quickly went to the cellar, literally...there was a noticeable slide with the talent and coaching and didn't take long to go 0-18. Following year it started to look like another winless season and he got the can (about 2 and a half years ago), he got replaced by an interim for the rest of that season, they finished 1-17. The following year they hired Oliver Purnell out of Clemson. His first year with Jerrys kids DPU went 1-17. This is his second year now but he's basically cleared out all but 2 of Jerrys recruits, those two are seniors and their graduation date cant come fast enough. right now its a roster full of sophmores and freshmen.

Moral of the story, fire your coach early if you see a drastic slide in the talent of incoming recruits and win/loss record. The Big East is very unforgiving....
Football, no coin flip is needed.
UC was 100% a basketball school until joining the BE. Might be split now. Probably trending at being a football school now, though.

Pitt, Cuse, Cinci, and Louisville are all very similar in that we all emphasize both sports and have had some success on both sides. But if we had to pick, Pitt would be a football school.
Historically/Statistically we are a basketball school....the accomplishments of the bb program dwarf the football program.
2 National Championships, 6 final fours vs 12 bowl games most of which are small time bowls.

However, after firing Huggs and gutting the bb program combined with the RECENT run by football, seems like football is more popular right now: people like a winner.

I think it's fair to say we emphasize both really....and are successful in both right now....heck our bb team made the ncaa last year (after five year absence) and our football team just won a share of the BE and has won the BE 3 of the past 4 years so I think both are doing pretty well right now. It's a great time to be a Bearcat as we say!
We are both football and basketball, now. In fact Louisville is an all-sports school! 04-cheers
