Rumor has it (again I stress RUMOR) that Temple was offered a football only invite to the BE last week and turned it down, holding out for all sports or nothing.

If it’s true Temple turned down the BE $ for football only because they were holding out for an all sports invite then I’m going to have to think long and hard about continuing my financial support of Temple athletics.

I have no issue whatsoever with a BE football / A-10 basketball combo. Temple basketball has done just fine on a national stage playing out of the A-10, football NEEDS the BE for the national exposure.

I’m hoping this is not true, I’m sure I’ll hear more buzz at tonight’s Temple Xavier game tonight. (Shameless plug, sorry)

BTW, Chip on his radio show here in Austin stated that his source was wrong and meant Memphis and not Temple. Just an FYI.
I guess Deloss is letting Chip say nice things about Chip's alma mater (SMU) as of late

I hope your right because a lot is flying around between Temple supporters saying this story has legs. If he made a mistake why would the link still be active with no edit? Like I said, rumor, and as a Temple fan I hope it’s nothing more than that or a mistake.

Because it's Orangebloods and they don't care.

I actually heard him say it on his radio show yesterday.

He's been a good boy for spreading disinformation for Daddy Dodds. The SMU puff is his reward.

Ok, that’s a good point. I feel better now thanks.

Wait, he's a SMU grad? Between Chip Brown and Craig James the Ponies have a lot to answer for.

yup, but Chip is originally from Michigan so at least the state of Texas is in the clear.
Unlike Craig, Chip is a really nice guy. Craig only "supports" SMU when he needs something. Previous coach sent his son Adam a recruiting form letter instead of a formal visit and that pissed him off.

Chip is a really nice guy. All of the Orangebloods guys are.

On the one hand, I understand your feelings completely. Temple was once a football-only member, so it would be natural to have that status restored now that Temple football's back on track.

But I can also see the point of view (if there's any truth to this rumor) that Temple deserves an all-sports invitation. They're not a lesser team when compared to any of the eastern invitees, all of whom (except Navy) were invited for all sports. The situation has changed drastically from when Temple football was kicked out, and it's time for the Big East to acknowledge that Temple deserves to be in one of a top conference in both basketball & football.

In the end, I wouldn't be surprised if this rumor proved untrue. But even if it is, I think the Big East still needs Temple.

I've always heard Craig James was not liked by his peers.

Even Craig James doesn't like Craig James.

There were nice people working at Pravda back in the day too...
There would be no point in a Temple football only invite. The teams invited for football-only were invited that way because it does not make sense either way to be full members (the west coast teams, or the academies). If you invite Temple, they are in the middle of the conference's geographic footprint. You'd invite them for all sports.

Wow. They'll get a kick out of that.

Makes some sense if true. BE is in the Philly market already for BB. Nova and the catholic schools won't split that market up. Just like there is no way UC would want a team like Xavier to split up its own BE market. BE would obviously have like to have the Phily market online for football. Was worth an offer. If they passed, their loss.

What DeLoss wants, DeLoss gets, which is why ATM finally gave up with the B12.

Seems logical to me, too.
