...I haven't kept up with the latest happenings, but are they still thinking it'd be set up where they'd be separated by divisions, and only the two shall meet in a championship game? I thought I heard something about this being a setup at one point. If so, then the "travel" wouldn't be as bad as it looks.

Well they are running a bit low on teams to do that. 16 now and 15 in 2013.

Also whats the point of being in one conference with that reality?

Conference USA. It covers the USA.

I imagine that'll be back to 16, somehow or another, in 2013. I guess I could see two 8-team divisions. You play 7 division-mates, and 1 "crossover".

They might as well name it all 'Conference USA', then. Actually seems a bit more appropriate now.
