The wife of the local high school coach goes out in the back yard around ten in the nightly ritual of taking the dog out. Although she normally takes their young daughter with her for this chore, tonite she goes alone. The husband hears a scream and runs towards the back door. As he gets close to it, he sees a black man standing over his wife. He lunges at the man, who turns and shoots him. The assailant turns and calmly walks away. The coach then discovers his wife dead on the ground. An investigation by police reveals that nothing has been taken from the home. Several days later, a black man (with a history of local burglaries) is arrested.

Two months later, the husband feels the need to go on the local TV news and tell his story about the incident. In full detail, and without shedding a tear, he relates the entire episode and his feelings at the time to the TV news anchor man that has come for the interview.

I'm sorry, but I don't get it. What's the motivation? I don't see anything good that can be accomplished by this. Am I missing something here, or is it possible that there is another story about what really happened that night?
Attempted robbery gone bad. When a criminal is busted and fires two shots you get the crap out of there you don't loot the place as planned. The coach has had time to come to terms with the loss of his wife so the movie star tears may not come.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
I still have two questions. The coach said "the man calmly walked away". I'm like you. You get the crap out of there. Also, what's the motivation to come on TV to tell this story? There's nothing gained. I don't buy it. Stay tuned. I get the feeling there's more to come.
This story never rang true to me.

It's news people want to know what happened in a small town where murders are not common.

Good lord, the internet detectives run rampant.

Well?

So the internet detectives and you would be more satisfied if he got paid to tell his story? Something bad happened in his life and the hick cops there accused him of doing it now he is cleared and wants to make sure his name is clear. What better way to do that than go on the evening news?

This really isn't that hard Dick Tracy
The story seems odd to me as well. Not saying anything is more than it seems but odd is all. I did find these comments interesting but as always take the comments section with a grain of salt.

Quote:As a 15yr police vet with 6yrs investigation violent crimes im having a hard time believing this story as told. in my experience most burglars are drug addicts looking 4 something they can quickly sell or pawn, they usually dont go armed because if they had a gun they would sell or pawn it 2. they typically comitt burglaries when no 1 is home & run if confronted. why would he shoot & kill the wife, but only wound him, especially if he took time to come in & stand over him then calmly walk away. dont make sense that he would go there to comitt a burglary, end up comitting murder, then leave empty handed. finally the story was told slightly different the 1st time. I hope im wrong & I feel sorry for the family but my police experience tells me this story doesnt make sense.....
